Mar 30th 2009 8:47PM If your bad players don't care enough to get good, and your good players don't care enough to help them, your guild is already dead. At which point, you can't bring it back to life any more than Dr. Frankenstein could.
Which is to say, by applying high voltage, you can make it get up and walk around, but it'll always be a twisted, broken relic of its former self, and you're better off just burying it in the ground and walking away.
Mar 20th 2009 9:11AM I think I can top the original post.
Black Temple. We're clearin' trash, ho hum. Fury warrior says, "I want a trash mace to drop", meaning Swiftsteel Bludgeon. Two seconds later, two people loot in combat...
And it's two Swiftsteel Bludgeons. Fury warrior immediately equips both of them, main hand and offhand.
Calling for "a purple" to drop and getting it is pretty awesome. Calling for a *specific* purple to drop, and getting two and equipping both? Priceless.

Mar 18th 2009 5:10PM I'd encourage everyone to check out EP/GP (http://code.google.com/p/epgp/). It's not perfect, but it does solve many of the common problems with DKP systems:
* Works using an in-game addon for easy setup and use (no website to manage)
* Fixed item prices for minimal in-raid hassle (auction systems can really slow down a raid)
* Doesn't suffer from "inflation" -- new raiders come in on a fair basis
* Allows players to be rewarded for attendance, donations, or anything else, not just boss kills
* Did I mention it's easy to set up?
It's not the simplest, it's not the most flexible, but it's the most balanced and easy-to-use DKP system I've seen so far. Its principle shortcoming is that it doesn't leave a "paper trail" so you can see who looted what when.
Anyway, check it out.
Mar 18th 2009 8:36AM Yes, it's "just a game". So is softball. And I'd kick you off my softball team for this kind of behavior, even if you were a close friend.
Guild reputations are made or broken not by the behavior of individual players, but how the guild responds to that behavior. If you tolerate this guy's asshattery, you deserve your rep as a guild full of ninjas.
Dec 10th 2008 5:59PM As a jewelcrafter, I *like* the new system. I don't want to spend 10,000 gold buying BoE patterns. I also don't want to be totally shut out of the JC game by someone who does choose spend that kind of money. I just want to cut a few gems, make a little money, help some friends now and then, get some goodies for myself.
If no jewelcrafter has everything to offer, then every jewelcrafter has something to offer.
To the author of the article: the problem is not that jewelcrafting sucks, the problem is that you're an obsessive completionist. With the new system, getting a some good patterns that people will pay good money for is easy. Getting ZOMG EVERY LAST PATTERN IN THE GAME is ridiculously difficult.
That said, accidentally buying the same pattern twice, which I did today, really really really sucks.
Nov 24th 2008 9:11AM Oh, christ, "Filling the Cages" leads to a cutscene? You're *kidding* me. That quest should be doused in gasoline and set on pyroblasted, I was hoping to skip it on the live servers.
Nov 20th 2008 11:34AM I'm kinda disappointed to see this posted on WoWInsider: I discovered the Hatch by accident during the beta, and it was a "HAHA!" moment that I hate to see spoiled for everyone else.
As for where it is, Professor Halliwax left strict instructions that that information *must* be kept secret, for the safety of everyone in Northrend. The consequences should its location be revealed to the Hostiles are too dangerous to risk.
Nov 12th 2008 12:49AM "In before 5 million angry North Americans express their outrage at the year's biggest gaming screw up."
Adam, I *know* you've been playing this game for a while, because I've been playing it with you. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE. IT ALL CAME OUT ALL RIGHT IN THE END.
There was a loss of in-game mail what, two and a half years ago? A bit before BC came out. Everybody got their stuff back. It wasn't the end of the world.
The timing on this is especially horrible, with Lich King coming out tomorrow, but I'm not worried that anything will be permanently lost.
Nov 11th 2008 3:20AM Here's my video of the event in Orgrimmar. There's a lot of these on Youtube right now, but mine has nice music editing and shows the whole event, in chronological order, with conversations and background, so you can tell what's going on.
