Apr 28th 2008 10:37AM What I find interesting is all the folks that see this as BAD quality product. They're delivering exactly what they offered - rapid-prototyping technology (especially at the level affordable by a fan-based business with no funding from Blizzard) is at exactly the level you're seeing. Especially when you add in so much coloring - the vast majority of 3D printers and rapid-prototype machines use a single color to get the FORM of the product right. It's dusty because that's the material and manufacturing method in use. It's also right in line with how many they're able to turn out in a given month. "Rapid" means they can be made in a day or so, as opposed to many weeks as would be required if they were being done by hand. Without a large bank of machines, they can't make all that many at once even running them 24hrs/day.
Now whether the photos on their website are accurate representations of final products - that's a whole other story, and I'm not happy with the large disparity. But I have a feeling this is what we're going to be left with until the business builds up enough profit to upgrade its equipment and increase the number of units it has. Half a million dollars per machine isn't exactly doable for a fan-based startup.
Dec 20th 2007 8:39AM I recall two in Kara that are still being joked about. We had a tank AFK and I think our Druid off-tank was in kitty gear. "Go ahead man, you can tank this..."
The other was a pull of the all-elite group on the top floor of the ballroom along with the AOE group and I think one patrol. Someone (not the raid leader called wipe) and our two tanks turned tail and ran, leaving the rest of us in the dust as we continued to try and manage the situation. We still give our tanks hell for being cowards. :)
Dec 19th 2007 4:38PM You'd think I wouldn't need your reminder posts on something as big as this...but thanks anyway.
Dec 18th 2007 4:21PM ROFL - I'm worrying my co-workers with the laughter at the moment. And oh wow, I now totally miss my Gnome Rogue that was my first ever character. I still fully maintain, that should Death Knights be open to any race and the unlocking of them be cross-faction - I WILL be rolling a Gnome Death Knight.
Dec 18th 2007 1:27PM I felt completely gipped by how easy the Horde one is in comparison. We got to the end of it and I said "Wait, you mean that's it?". After going through the epic Warlock questline, I was expecting something similar and really looking forward to it. I ended up getting sorely disappointed. Sometimes, it's not all about what's cheaper.
Dec 18th 2007 10:38AM You guys just wanted a way to stress test your comment system didn't you?
Dec 17th 2007 2:35PM Oh my god - the interviewer needs to be shot. How much you want to bet she either came from, or is going to Fox News? :)
Dec 17th 2007 9:27AM 2 - thought I suppose when WotLK comes out it'll go up to 3. I got my Tailor/Warlock up to a point where badge rewards aren't upgrades, Tier isn't upgrades (except for that freaking T4 from HK...I've gotten outrolled for months now), frankly there's not much until BT or MH that I'm interested in. So I started another character while I just raid with Sylythn. Wanted a change of pace, so I chose a melee (paladin), and I love underdogs, so I went Ret - all the way. Now I'm working on earning badges and building up tank/heal sets to help our guild 5-mans. Death Knight will be the next one.
