Feb 22nd 2012 7:42AM I'm not sure the solution is to prevent the "1000 single-item auctions" method of posting. Sure, it's annoying if you're using the default interface, and yes some people object to installing addons (or AH addons, or whatever). I switched to Auctionator from Auctioneer for just this reason -- Fox didn't show the Buy interface, but it looks like the Sell interface. It groups all similar auctions on one line and then lets you buy each posting with one click so you can very quickly work through the whole 1000 if you want. Don't want to buy those 1000 pieces of silk? Just ignore that line.
I think the better solution is not to prevent posting patterns but to instead redesign the AH interface. Maybe the changes aren't simple, but if an addon writer can do it, surely Blizzard can too.
Feb 21st 2012 9:10PM Check out www.twistednether.net -- I believe their wiki has a section for all things blogging. The podcast is also worth looking into since they interview different bloggers each week and one of their questions is what do they use for hosting and why. Feb 13th 2012 1:04PM I have an easier time explaining computer games (even MMOs) to people than explaining pen-and-paper RPGs. "It's kinda like interactive storytelling and improvisational theater mixed together, with some elements of RISK and ... um... Monopoly" is about as close as I've gotten.
Feb 11th 2012 12:54PM I'm sure we've learned to never say never, but Blizzard has repeatedly said that they want achievements to be an end in themselves and not contribute anything to player power.
Feb 4th 2012 3:10PM Dailies. I have the patience for about 2 weeks of any given daily. If I haven't gotten what I need by then it becomes torture. I'm lookin' at you, Molten Front.
Jan 21st 2012 4:54PM I assume it's a reference to werewolves changing when the moon's full. In a new moon they would (presumably?) be most in control of their faculties.
Jan 16th 2012 7:57PM "Think about Cataclysm, and think about it very hard. Think about how much you enjoyed it. Think about what you didn't like about it. Think about all the times you complained that there wasn't enough to do."
So I'm apparently the silent minority that has enjoyed Cataclysm. There wasn't much I disliked about it except having to grind Molten Front for an hour every night for a month (and even that was technically optional). I have never complained that there wasn't enough to do. We have 6 (?) months until Mists and I still have a To Do list a mile long, which doesn't include ANY end-game content except getting my iLevel high enough to do LFR all the way through.
This was a great article series and I even agree with Anne's statement to not go back and revamp anything else -- but not because Cata left me with too little to do. It's because I'm sick of listening to people whine that there isn't enough to do. As she says on All Things Azeroth -- Shut the front door.
Jan 11th 2012 8:04AM First of all, thanks Chase for continuing to write even from a war zone, and welcome back from your tour of duty!
Thank you for writing this guide. I'm only now getting up the nerve to do heroics and these guides will be very useful since I don't want to look like a complete idiot. I've never bothered to instance much in the past (there's so much other content to do and I don't like grouping) but with the introduction of the Raid Finder, this is the first expansion that I have the potential of actually seeing an end boss so that's drawing me into heroics (I'm 3 iLevel points from qualifying for RF, argh!).
So anyway, thank you thank you, and all you naysayers can go work on 10- and 25-man heroics while the rest of the player base benefits from Chase's writing.
Jan 7th 2012 8:53AM Female, with exclusively female toons. They are indeed "more elegant in movement" -- the animations and general stance of the character I'm watching are very important to me. The male versions just don't work for me. My mother, however, has a variety of male and female toons. My father has exclusively male toons.
