Transgaming to use SecuROM for Cider games {}

Aug 21st 2008 4:11PM Just sent to Paul Nowasad, director of marketing:

Thanks! You've just saved a new Mac owner the decision of whether to buy any of your games. Stupidly restrictive DRM, like SecuROM, is nothing but a great way to lose existing and alienate potential customers.

Did I mention that you just lost me?

What on earth possessed your company to make such an asinine decision? On second thought, don't answer; I doubt I could endure the torrent of predictable bull----.

Death is in the air for gold sellers {WoW}

Aug 8th 2008 3:59PM I used to think that Blizzard had a moral leg to stand on, but with the TCG loot cards, Recruit-A-Friend benefits, and turning a blind eye to multiboxing -- it's all about greed now.

More power to the gold sellers, I say.

The Death Knight starting experience {WoW}

Aug 7th 2008 5:10PM The only bad thing about the entire experience is the ending, actually. After this amazing battle filled with lore references (and some pretty neat visual effects), you're basically dumped back in Ebon Hold and there's a flight master where Arthas used to be standing.

No one tells you you're "done" with the DK starting experience; you don't have any quests to point you into the next zone(s); you're just sitting there, and the only way you really discover that you're ready to move on is the fact that no one has any quests for you anymore (and not many NPCs will talk to you now, either.)

Yes, you do start with all the flight paths learned, but the way you're just dumped into old Azeroth is really jarring. Merely adding one more quest from Mograine to seek out a leader in who explains things a little more would make all the difference.

Roxio releases Toast 9 with streaming {}

Mar 17th 2008 8:51PM Roxio offers a 15-day money-back guarantee on their products, including downloads. I called up and asked about this exact problem since I'd purchased 8.0 five days ago. I was told to "Return" my order and then buy it again in a few days.

The rep sent me an email with a link; the linked page asked me to enter my email address and then verify that I am destroying all my copies of the software. As soon as I see the deposit on my credit card, I'll go buy 9.0 instead.
