Jan 11th 2010 9:21AM You claim that the IED provides about 60 mp5 which is a third of the mp5 from Solace of the Fallen. If you had 100% uptime of Solace of the Fallen (16mp5 stacked 8 times), wouldn't that be 128mp5? That would make IED provide about half rather than a third right? Am I missing something?
Anyway, the argument for IED is that the "throughput" meta gems offer insignificant benefits. If the tank dies from lack of throughput, it's highly unlikely that the 25 spellpower or even the 21 crit rating would have saved him. However, if healers are running out of mana, using an IED provides a significant amount of mana over the course of the fight that really can save the day.
You don't always know what you'll need for a boss fight, but when you need more mana, IED will provide tons of it. If you need more spell power or crit, the other meta gems will provide just a tiny bit that will hardly make any difference.
Dec 17th 2009 11:51PM What's the protocol for rolling on offspec loot with the new cross-faction LFG tool? My paladin is tanking, but if I roll need on that 2handed axe and win it over the dps warrior and DK, what can they do about it?
Dec 17th 2009 11:46PM I disagree with the stat weights given. SP helps you heal better, mp5 does not, they cannot possibly be equal. When you consider replenishment, mana tide totem, and good old fashioned mana pots, when was the last time you went completely oom? If you're geared appropriately for the fight, you shouldn't be going oom unless something went wrong like 2 extra groups were pulled or half the other healers in the raid died at the start.
You can't really use stat weights for healing gear because it depends on the fight and your own personal healing style. Are your heals not topping off your targets? More SP/crit. Are your heals not quick enough? More haste. etc.
Nov 21st 2009 12:28AM Article fails to mention that this was the best in slot tanking weapon for DKs for a long time. A tank can never have too much expertise with the current gear available in game.
Nov 7th 2009 9:25AM For those of you saying that the hybrid tax includes grinding out gear sets, it's like saying that rich people are taxed extra because they have to buy jet fuel for their private planes or provide health insurance for their house staff.
Nov 7th 2009 9:23AM The so called "hybrid tax" is already in place, but it's low enough for player skill to overcome it. This means that if you weren't doing at least 5k dps in naxx gear and 7k dps in ulduar gear, it's not your class holding your dps back.
Jul 15th 2009 8:15AM "Turn off XP and just see how it feels"? That one seems like a stretch...
But yeah, if I didn't raid, I'd probably level another toon after maxing out on all the preraid gear I can get.
If anyone has ever played City of Heroes, that's an MMO that has no endgame and the developers are fine with that. After you hit the level cap, you're suppose to just level another toon. I've discovered that it's not for me, but I find it interesting since it's such a different philosophy from WoW.

Not trying to be mean or anything, but it sounds like you and your friends just aren't very good at pvp. Examples: Ret pally stunlocking your DK... Ret pallies have 1 stun with a long cooldown. Repentance isn't really a stun since any damage breaks it. Plus, you always have your trinket and icebound fortitude which makes you IMMUNE to stuns for a full 12 seconds. The "invincible" disc priest probably was not getting interrupted at all (or you were trying to kill him with pain suppression on, instead of just waiting it out).
While there are some legitimate imbalances in pvp, I believe that the vast majority of complaining, is due to an unskilled player being rolled by someone who is much better.

Tremor totem has its weaknesses, but it's unique so something is better than nothing.
Mana spring totem does not delete BoW anymore.
DK buff only lasts 2 minutes (3 min glyphed). If the hunters have trouble staying in range of SoE totem, they're really gonna be out of range to get their horn of winter renewed. Windfury from a DK requires a DK to spec into it, whereas all shammies can put down a windfury totem. If the boss moves, you can drop another totem when you have to move as well. There are very few fights these days where you don't have to move.
But yeah, you're right about shammy AoE sucking.
Jun 15th 2009 6:55PM An easy fix would be to give shaman a buff whenever one of their totems is destroyed. The exact nature of the buff would need to be tested and balanced. I'm in favor of a buff that automatically resets the cooldown on all your totems (like earthbind and grounding) and/or reduces the mana cost of casting totems by 100% for 10 seconds. That will make people think twice about destroying your totems without making them invincible. They can keep sending their pet to destroy your totems, but then you can chain cast earthbind and grounding totems.
