Pandaren lore and what we know so far {WoW}

Mar 22nd 2012 10:36AM I'm pretty sure Blizzard hasn't said anything about it, but the Mogu have to be the Titan creations of the south, right?

I mean, from the images I've seen, they have that Titan-ish look about them and it wouldn't make sense for the Titans to have had no presence in whatever land-area Pandaria was way back then.

Mists of Pandaria Beta: New glyphs {WoW}

Mar 22nd 2012 10:25AM Yeah, the beta client is available for download (for some people), but the beta server isn't up yet. So you can't start the client and take screenshots yet.

This glyph information (and other recent beta posts), comes from "datamining" the beta client. Which is mostly just searching for human readable text in the executable program.

Questions about how the new glyph system works and what happens to our existing glyphs will have to wait until the beta server is up.

Warlocks getting a ranged taunt through glyph {WoW}

Mar 22nd 2012 10:19AM Maybe it's not full on tanking, but where I expect this (and similar abilities that other dps classes have) to really shine is in the new Scenarios feature.

The Scenarios don't require a proper tank to run them, but I bet having classes in your scenario group that can sort-of tank for a short period will help a lot.

Breakfast Topic: What would be your biggest Mists of Pandaria surprise? {WoW}

Mar 18th 2012 9:40AM Well, Blizzard has in the past cancelled games that weren't working out in development even after a lot of work (Lord of the Clans, Starcraft: Ghost).

So I think the biggest surprise would be Blizzard cancelling Mists.

Maybe the whole NDA press conference was Mike Morhaime standing up in front of the press and saying "Well, we're not really happy with the direction that the Mists of Pandaria expansion is going. So we're cancelling the expansion because it won't live up to Blizzard's standards. Please join us again in six months where we'll announce the new, new expansion."

Now, that would be a surprise.

The Lawbringer: Mailbag 10 {WoW}

Mar 16th 2012 1:53PM Well, one thing to consider is that the term "beta" really doesn't have any specific meaning anymore.

So Blizzard could very well have a testing phase of the sort that in the past they would have called a beta, but instead this time they call it a "pre-beta test". And that wording alone is enough to allow Blizzard to not invite the Annual Pass members.

So, as to when you'll get access? You'll get access as soon as Blizzard calls it a "beta"; but there's no way of knowing what they might decide to call a beta.

The Lawbringer: Mailbag 10 {WoW}

Mar 16th 2012 1:49PM When it comes to the "beta access" that Annual Pass buyers get, my advice is: don't go into it with any specific expectations.

If you can't wait to try out something specific in the Annual Pass beta thing, there's a good chance you'll be disappointed because it's probably not going to be a "full game, here's everything for you to play with" type of beta. It's hard to say what will and won't be in it, but it almost certainly won't be everything.

Don't get me wrong, it will be fun; I'm just saying, try not to build up expectations in your mind.

As to legally what we have to get... well, I'm sure the fine print is such that Blizzard has themselves completely covered so that practically anything they care to do will count as "beta access".

Addon and UI tips for new WoW players {WoW}

Mar 15th 2012 3:31PM Hmm. Isn't the real Addon problem for new players that you have to go to external resources to get the addons?

In the age of company run app stores; and mods right there in Steam (well, okay, that's new, but it's there now), the concept that the game publisher doesn't host the addon/mod eco-system and make those addons available through a pretty in-game interface is probably baffling to truly new players.

Hmm. There's a surprise feature that could come out of the Mists preview! What if Blizzard finally admitted how important addons are to the game and opened a WoW App Store.

Diablo III releases May 15, free Diablo III Annual Pass deal ends May 1 {WoW}

Mar 15th 2012 12:31PM Oh, back in January and February (and earlier), there were definitely people who were suggesting a May or even April release. Didn't seem realistic to me, but some people did say it.

Diablo III releases May 15, free Diablo III Annual Pass deal ends May 1 {WoW}

Mar 15th 2012 10:32AM So, shall we read the tea leaves for MoP then?

I can't see MoP coming out before D3. And I would think that Bliz would want to give D3 some breathing room. So I think we can rule out May and June for MoP release. So I'd say the D3 date establishes July as the earliest possible month for MoP.

Blizzard committed to keeping a sense of community {WoW}

Mar 13th 2012 6:23PM Yeah, Blizzard is putting in a lot of tools to make it possible to play the game with your existing friends. (I expect cross-realm guilds based on BattleTag (tm) to come in MoP.)

But there's not much in place these days to serendipitously make new friends; which is what the old server communities encouraged.
