Watch nine minutes of leaked Battlefield 3 now, but probably not later [update: not now either] {Joystiq}

The Soapbox: Subs and cash shops - Two great tastes that taste awful together {Massively}

Sep 4th 2011 3:28AM Sparkle Ponies are fine...and they show us who the kids are. Personally, I don't mind subscription based games having 'cash-shops' as long as they never sell game items the boost a players ability to cause damage, move faster in-game, craft better, or gain XP more quickly.

Any amount of flair/pets can be sold in a cash-shop, but the minute a weapon-set shows up, or an XP boosts appear, the game has essentially joined the F2P model...I won't pay a sub for a game like that, and you shouldn't either.

The Daily Grind: Would you play an MMO made by Rockstar Games? {Massively}

Aug 31st 2011 11:15AM Helllls yes!!!

If this comes to market, Rockstar is certain to deliver an edgy, fast paced, gun tote'n, car-jack'n good time. And, it is sure to rile more than a few congress persons and at least one disbarred Florida lawyer who hates games...which is always entertaining to watch. Would it be PC/Mac based, or a ported experience combining XB360/PS3 controls ala DCUO? Only time will tell...

Star Wars Galaxies puts the end of the saga in the hands of the players {Massively}

Aug 30th 2011 11:59AM @DevilSei you can play at any time you like. You need to get the client from

Planet War's open beta features contests, in-game prizes {Massively}

Aug 17th 2011 3:32PM Another crap MMO F2P release being rolled out with half an engine, and 2 out of 4 wheels needed to get down the road. When are these F2P devs going to realize that good design is not supposed to be done AFTER they go Beta. Polish and fixes come after Beta, but not design.

Hyperspace Beacon: Bucket list {Massively}

Aug 16th 2011 8:36PM I will miss not being able to say, I wish I could be playing SWTOR right now...all in all I am happy to lose the bucket list.

...wait, they took out fishing? How am I going to buff?!?!?!

The Daily Grind: What are your thoughts on headgear? {Massively}

Aug 15th 2011 8:40AM Personally I love hats on my characters, they can make an gear set look completely different, and often they represent an achievement you accomplished in-game. But I intensely dislike poorly designed helmets and headgear that don't account for a say, a characters long flowing hear, or don't actually fit the character's head because they are ill conceived/poorly sized head-replacements (check out Global Agenda) rather than new layers on the graphics.

One Shots: I got a fever {Massively}

Aug 11th 2011 4:26PM The Bruce Dickinson says, "Guess what?! I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!"

How do you balance game and family? {WoW}

Aug 11th 2011 9:31AM Family never stops...if my kiddo or partner needs me I am there. Meeting raid commitments has to be balanced and scheduled in advance with both family and guild to be manageable; my family is always first, period.

On that note, it seems when I am not giving my kiddo sage/motherly advice in real life, I seem to be doing it in game. Kids (12 to 22) tend look up to you when you treat them as equals, and appreciate an experienced perspective on all topics most of the time.

Namaste Entertainment charts the history of MMOs [Updated] {Massively}

Aug 10th 2011 2:57PM Hmmm...I thought Meridian was the 1st 3D MMO, while Nev Nights was the first graphical, and MUDs were the first period.  So I guess that neither MUD's/Multi User Dungeons (text based) played in the 1980's and later  and AOL's Neverwinter Nights, played from 1991 to 1997 don't count as MMOs...just as MOs

...And yes, I am old enough to have the memories of playing them when all three first came out (I played Island of Kesmai (a MUD) on Compuserve in 1985).
