Dec 20th 2008 9:18PM Mask, getting deadly glad gear is much harder than PvE especially in the state it's in. You just sound embittered and bad :P
Dec 19th 2008 8:10AM I'm happy with Wrath, and I really don't get where this bloated sense of entitlement you're espousing comes from >.>
'Game Experience May Change During Online Play.'
Dec 18th 2008 9:18AM Just got Haunting Call in Naxx 25 trash. I was so happy when I was looting one of the floating swords at the military quarter and abruptly saw purple, biggest upgrade so far :D
Dec 16th 2008 11:04AM A comment riddled with generalisations on a playerbase minority and QQ about world PvP happening in what I assume to be a PvP server (If not don't flag yourself) being voted up as an insightful comment? I guess all of us who like arenas will get downrated too.
For shame WoW Insider readers, for shame!
Dec 16th 2008 10:53AM 'still I would be able to do those 5 man instances all the time if I wanted to.... the bosses in there wouldn´t get harder to beat each week right?'
I'll concede that you nailed one of the finer points there. The simple fact is that PvP isn't static like PvE and unfortunately nothing can be done to change that. At least in arena the ELO system brings you to your appropriate gear/skill level one way or another, but in BG's i guess Deadly vs 0Resil is a lot more common. I guess rated BGs wouldn't be such a bad idea after all :[

Okay I'll try, please forgive my shoddy math >.<
For a single BG an optimistic estimate for honor gained would be 4k or so. a single piece of Savage Glad in pure honor would cost around 60k (I heard that figure somewhere). Therefore a single BG will grant you 6.6666% (repeating, of course!) of a piece of blue gear.
An average arena-goer at the rating of 1500 would get 350~ arena points for 10 games in a week. The Arena items all require honor now so I'll use the price on the old arena-points only gear, most of which was around 1800 points or something I believe. Therefore, ten games would grant you 19.44~% of a piece of epic gear. If you were good at arenas or even simply ran 5v5 this percentile would be much larger even!
So, going by those numbers, I'd think that arena's require a smaller time investment for gear than BGs and definitely so for raiding.
Dec 16th 2008 10:19AM That makes sense, but you still do get gear from doing BGs, and while Savage Glad may not be so great (read:purple :d) the itembonus jump from Savage to Hateful or Deadly isn't nearly as large of a difference from 5-man content gear to raiding gear, so you still will be competitive in BGs while in Savage Glad. And as a response to your analogy, a person in Savage vs. a person in Deadly is in much better shape than a person in questing/instance gear vs. a person in full Valorous.
And to the point that you'd like to play with your friends rather than play a more competitive comp the same thing applies for raiding; you'll need certain classes to compete at a higher level.
And if you don't like 'small scale fights,' what if I don't like raiding? I won't get the best PvE gear either.
Dec 16th 2008 10:05AM Yeah Sharkhunt you've got a good point there. It's darn impossible to please most or even half of the playerbase in a set ranking system wherein only a set amount of the top minority get the purples; and thanks to the ELO system for every 2000+ team theres 5 1400~ teams >.<
That's another reason why I think rated BGs, while seeming like a good idea to implement on paper, wouldn't pay off :P
Dec 16th 2008 9:57AM What's this with everybody talking about the 'time' it takes in arenas? Last time i checked you can get the best arena gear by putting in 10 games a week. Even if you added the practising, outlast teams (double healer warrior /facepalm), queue dodging, and hitting the ratings-wall into the equation, Arena still take much less time than anything else.
Dec 16th 2008 9:34AM WoW Insider = Arena Hater Central as usual =D
I don't get why people are so mad about the better PvP gear requiring arena ratings anyway; If people take time and effort to get a good comp and to learn the skills/min max to a high rating they deserve better gear. As an analogy I don't see people who only run normal 5-mans clamour that they want t7.5 and then complain when the ones who worked hard for t7.5 gear own them in the charts or whatever.
On the topic itself I'm exited as heck, just respecced into 20/0/51 as a frost mage and I'm starting to get the hang of it, I hope a mix of frostsavage and VoA gear will get me through >.>
I just know its going to be fun with all the new mechanics and whatnot. All the new skills, DK's in competitive PvP, and the new arenas as well as the random elements therein (some people think RNG I think 'OMFG that's sick!!'), this is going to be a great season folks!
