Oct 25th 2009 4:39PM The buttons serve to deactivate the little gates that summon bombs during the Thermaplugg fight, which is crucial if you're doing the fight at level.
Sep 26th 2009 5:38PM GC's communication with players was one of the best things to happen to this game since the beta of LK. Great job, you bitchy little girls. You broke it.
To quote someone from the forum thread: This is why we can't have nice things.
Sep 1st 2009 11:12AM It's not going to be designed to replace WoW, but fill a different niche.
Jeff Kaplan, who's designing it, says he thinks one of the big mistakes they made with WoW was the proliferation of abilities, and that if he had it to do over again, he'd limit the number of abilities you could use at once.
That sounds like a Guild Wars-style system of building a deck of 8-10 abilities and then adventuring with them.
I also expect a stronger focus on PvP systems and balance, given Blizz's success with Starcraft. I suspect the game will be built from day one to have a PvP focus.
But hell if any of us know.
Jul 3rd 2009 1:16PM Blizzard's approach to PvP is just utterly asinine. Fewer and fewer and fewer people are participating, yet they continue to implement more and stupider impediments toward people actually having a reason to pvp, regardless of skill level.
Bring back the S1 and S2 systems, and let people farm BG honor for upgrades, darnit. It was a popular system and it worked. The only problem was that at the time, PvE content was so ridiculously overtuned for most people, it made more sense to farm honor for upgrades than it did to bust their heads on Tier 4 and Tier 5 content.
Mar 28th 2009 5:42PM Seriously, why not just start calling people downies and retards, too?
Mar 24th 2009 6:53PM Has nothing to do with class balance or Wintergrasp.
It's pure incentives.
Season 1 and Season 2 saw the highest participation of any pvp activity ever in the game, because they offered good rewards (often too good, compared to comparable-tier pve rewards) at a _guaranteed_ rate of return: Do arenas long enough, and you'll get a sword.
When ratings requirements were implemented in Season 3, participation dropped. When the ratings requirements were extended to almost all items in Season 5, participation dropped farther.
There's now almost no incentive to do PvP in the game (outside wintergrasp) if you're anything other than a hardcore pvp-er.
IMO, Blizz needs to go back to the Season 1 and Season 2 model, except make the gear slightly less attractive compared to its PvE counterparts by itemizing it more heavily with Resilience. (At the time, it made much more sense to PvP for a weapon than to bust your head against, for instance, Gruul or, in Season 2, Serpentshrine Cavern / TK. That's a "problem" Blizzard probably wants to avoid, though it didn't have any real negative effect on PvE progression).
Mar 3rd 2009 5:19PM You know, at a certain point WoWInsider's blatant pro-raid old fogeyness becomes really offputting to users who appreciate Blizzard's interest in innovating by making the game more fun and less grindy / punitive.
Get off your WoW 1.0 high horse, come out from Blackwing Lair and enjoy the year 2009.
Feb 7th 2009 4:43PM The best thing you can do to prepare for Ulduar 10 is run Naxx 25 in trade channel pugs.
You'll outgear it by half a tier and then can tell everyone in 10-man guilds how stupidly easy it is.
