Nov 19th 2009 4:38PM "it's never hindered my DPS"
I love that line; I hear it all the time from guildies who can't figure out why I trounce them on the meters. Make any excuse you like, this is like trying to defend keyboard turning. Information=power. Maybe you can patchwerk for 95% of max dps, but throw in some complications and the gap will only grow.
Jun 15th 2009 8:30PM Make up for the disadvantage? You mean by having dozens of uber buffs?
May 31st 2009 10:57PM Best colosseum ever, hands down. More informative interviews with thoughtful players please!
Apr 27th 2009 5:24PM Silly gurls, if you honestly believe that "I've known just as many guys as gals who cause all kinds of trouble" then you've just told us women are terrible at WoW. Do you think 50% of players are women? You should be seeing 5 crappy guys for every "afk baby crying" mom.
Apr 24th 2009 11:19PM Poor andy,
The author specifically stated "and the tank is not afk". Thank you for proving my point about self-righteous MTs. The issue is with perfectionist tanks who double the length of raids by waiting for every mana bar and every buff before every pull. MDing to the tank without being asked isn't something to be done often or without a friendly relationship between you and the tank. It's supposed to be a friend kicking you in the nuts saying "let's get a move on".
And don't fret too much, you probably wouldn't have to remove either of us, since we would have out-grown your sluggish raiding pace long ago.
Apr 24th 2009 7:49PM @ Jay
This is why it's great that tanks aren't always the RL anymore. The MD is your notice that you should have pulled if the healers were ready and the tanks topped off. That you would vindictively wipe the group only shows the arrogance and narcissism of many MTs. The tanks job is to keep the raid moving as quickly as possible, leave the driving to another raid member. Especially if you're this conceited.
Apr 24th 2009 12:18PM So you've said in 3000 words what we all could sum up in 10: If it not for loot, no one would run 25. Unfortunately you've only grazed the real question, which Eliah's previous article brought up: does this fact alone justify the loot disparity.
If I were in a hard-core guild I'd probably say yes. 25 man encounters are a tiny bit richer and inherently easier to balance. Unfortunately, like 99% of players I am not. Now I'm sure you just scoffed at that number "omg, what a nub, there are millions of hard-core players". But here is where our definitions differ. I killed a couple bosses in naxx in vanilla, the same in sunwell in TBC, before losing my mind. Those were in 'casual' guilds who allowed players to schedule their raid times around RL, although expecting attendance of 3 raids per week.
The unfortunate truth is that PEOPLE SUCK. WoW players are almost all mouth-breathing mindless imbeciles. After carrying 5-10 morons for years I finally gave up. Now I pug wrath content and the only thing which has changed is the number of people who can safely tune out. Emalon25 with current pug gear allows you bring maybe 2-3 idiots. Which means it has taken me 6 raids to kill him once.
Now I'm sure what you're thinking is "this guy is such a jerk, no wonder his raids fail". However, I can assure you that when leading raids I can say those happy little things which keep finicky pugs from exploding. My second-to-last, and most frustrating run, I was actually thanked after-wards by two previously unknown pugs for "being so patient".
Is this a reasonable work/reward ratio? Yes, WoW is a multi-player game, and we should revel in the group aspects. But I submit that having to create a group of 90% competent players is prohibitive given the general population of immature, selfish, self-entitled, ignorant players.
Fill 25s with awesome achievements and great non-combat rewards. Put all the mounts and tabards a pets in there. Just don't make us go in there for loot.
MgT was the greatest addition WoW ever had. Great loot from a fun 5-man. Most of my "end-game raiding" guild at the time had their asses handed to them. They could be carried through an illidan kill, but they couldn't clear a dungeon. These were the same players with 1000 arena ratings. Officers, class leaders, idiots.
I love WoW, and I'd love to see it all without being gimped in new content if I don't suffer through the 25mans of the previous content to get the best gear. I can find 4-9 other decent players, but 24 is out of the question.
TLDR: people suck -> 25mans are terrible
give 25s non-combat incentive, loot powers progression
Apr 7th 2009 12:52PM Stick to blogging.... wow, the chance of [1,2,3,4] is 1/100^4 but something tells me they would have been equally amazed by [2,3,4,5] or [4,3,2,1]. Of course your comment section is a much richer source of math-gasms. I like how "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" never seems to apply, where the rule is "numbers are scary so just make it up because U R so SMRT, your high school math teacher said so!".
Feb 10th 2009 3:35PM also @ rewind,
I'm not sure if it's cute that you may have thought the divine plea was the incoming pally regen nerf, or that it's funny that you think saying it will make it so.
Either way I will relish your sweet tears when they actually do something to prevent pallies from rocking into arena with pure PvE gear and 25k mana pools with an SV hunter to lolspam FoL for 30 mins.
