Tom Chilton talks Arena with Gotfrag {WoW}

May 27th 2008 6:11PM "The fact that wow at this very moment is the most popular it has ever been makes your argument that Blizzard is just trying to 'bleed' what is left of wow not only wrong but just outright moronic."

Right, because everyone who is playing WoW right now got into it because of the draw of playing an E-Sport.

WoW's phenomenal growth is due in large part to the way it appeals to a variety of gameplay styles. I prefer soloing and World PVP. Many of my friends IRL prefer hardcore raiding. Others like the BGs. My wife is happy to just level different alts to 70 with the PVE content.

But Blizzard seems intent on dramatically altering the game for what is, frankly, one of the least interesting parts of the game ... Arenas.

Chilton says WoW as an e-sport just sort of happened. No, it is something they're shoving down every player's throat.

I'm biased because I absolutely hate the Arenas, but it seems also to be self-consciously an esport. Raiding, PVE content, World PVP, even the Battelgrounds moreorless fit the fantasy milieu and cliches...the Battlegrounds feel like they're tacked on "ooh, lets make this an esport too!"

Virus infected Fraps steals account information? [UPDATED] {WoW}

Apr 30th 2008 6:07PM ""My password hasn't changed in 4 years, and I've never been hacked. Just don't be an idiot"

That is BEING an idiot. Should be changing it regularly with a strong password generation system. What you wrote is, "I got lucky, fellow nubs"."

This was downright stupid advice. If your system is compromised by a trojan, you can change your password every 5 minutes if you like and it's going to get compromised about every 5 minutes.

Like the other poster, I've used the same password for years without incident. People aren't getting their accounts stolen because they're not changing passwords. They're losing their accounts because they're clicking on attachments, downloading and running apps without virus scanning them, visiting websites without blocking ActiveX/javascript, etc.

Also, this article is extremely irresponsible unless Adam has downloaded and virus scanned Fraps to confirm that's the source of the infection. As another poster mentioned, this probably has nothing to do with Fraps but rather a Trojan that hit users system and then attaches itself to an already installed Fraps since Fraps is frequently set up to start on bootup. Not saying it can't be Fraps, but the original article is irresponsible even with the "take this with a grain of salt" caveat.

Breakfast Topic: Figureprints {WoW}

Apr 28th 2008 9:08AM "The point is that FigurePrints is not run by Blizzard in any shape or form. It is run by a fan of Blizzard's products, namely World of Warcraft."

You sir, are a moron. This is an officially licensed Blizzard product, not just some fan cranking these out on his own time. Blizzard takes in revenue from each one produced and saw and approved these before this guy ever went into business.

Breakfast Topic: Figureprints {WoW}

Apr 28th 2008 9:06AM Huh? Who cares if it is a separate company...this is a licensed product so Blizzard is indeed profiting off of these crappy things.
