Recent in-game fixes for 12/14/2009 {WoW}

Dec 15th 2009 10:01AM Odd thing is, this encounter to me feels like the nerf needs to be on 25 man more than 10 man. After we had a full understanding of how the spikes and fire worked, we cleared it on 10 man in 3 attempts. 25 man seemed to be where the tunred more insane but maybe its just me.

Breakfast Topic: What do you think of 3.1 {WoW}

Apr 15th 2009 9:38AM I really find it funny when people complain about where their $15 is spent. Literally we'te talking about a monetary amount equal to the cost of a dinner out. One day of downtime is NOT going to ruin your life.

Breakfast Topic: Does the guild recruitment channel work? {WoW}

Apr 8th 2009 9:04AM Over on Drak'Tharon, I've recruited numerous members that have stuck around and been good players that show up to our weekly raids. I'd say around 35% of our players I've (or my guildies) have met through running instances with people (both leveling and when I hit 80), 35% were referred by other members, and about 30% were actually recruited from GR or Trade.

I found a much higher response through GR / Trade when we were leveling though, not as much once I started announcing we're clearing 10 man Naxx. We ran our first 25 man last week so while it's a slow growth (approximately 5 months now), we're building a solid group of raiders.

Guildwatch: The dreaded 0% wipe {WoW}

Mar 30th 2009 9:45AM 2 weeks ago we had an epic almost 0% wipe. Fighting Loatheb, our MT solo'd Loatheb from 2%, down to 0% and died. The Lacerate DOT hung long enough for Loatheb to die where our Shaman then reincarnated, res'd the group, and we celebrated.

Breakfast topic: Poaching {WoW}

Jan 19th 2009 9:43AM One other thing I just realized, one thing I also have been doing to help raise visibility some is to run lowbies through instances for free, or performing tasks such as leatherworking for them. In my opinion, it's just good karma.

Breakfast topic: Poaching {WoW}

Jan 19th 2009 9:41AM When Blizzard opened up transfers to Drak'Tharon after the WOTLK release, a few friends and I moved over to avoid the queues. We decided to start our own guild as we had left the previous guild as an experiment. Once the queue was back down on Illidan, we were going to head back.

Now prior to this, when WOTLK came out I had no prior raid experience, in fact I had just turned 58 and was quite turned off by the horde (no pun intended) of DK's in HFP attacking.

Once I realized I could find solace by questing in Zangarmarsh my gaming experience returned to mostly normal. Through the levels, I did plenty of PUGing, usually with 1 or 2 guild members. In the event someone was unguilded, I issued a casual invite after if they were a decent player. If they were a guilded member but a pretty quality player, I'd ask about their guild. This wasn't an intentional method to just recruit. I wanted to learn about the guilds on the server (as it was new to everyone). If they stated some dissatisfaction towards their guild, I'd extend an offer to look us up.

As far as other recruiting goes, I spammed guild recruitment, some general channels, and trade channels mildly when I was passing through cities and zones. I didn't try to out advertise and was pretty honest with perspective people. If I noticed people post they were looking for a guild, I'd shoot them a PST asking them what kind of guild they were looking for.

Since our inception (almost 2 months ago) we've grown from 5 core members to around 60 and regularly have 6-10 players online. Other than a lowbie telling me how I'm a "zit faced adult with no life living in my mom's basement" after me explaining to him if he wants to become a better player, he shouldn't beg for runs so much, we've had little drama and it's been an enjoyable experience.

As a guild we're using our professions to start playing the auction hall now and soon should have enough Frostweave bags for most members. Our vent server stays busy, and we keep growing steadily via our recruiting policies.

The "Official" Verdict on Powerset (or what would I do if i was the CEO). {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}
