Jul 2nd 2009 9:47AM I think you're confusing orientation with gender identity. Orientation is who you like; gender identity is which gender you feel you are. (True story: In some places, trans people have the right to use the opposite sex's bathroom.)
Jan 20th 2009 12:48PM Prot are also SOL against vehicles - If we get a single step behind, all we can do is AS. Prot is often better off strapping on healing gear and using our other toys as annoyances and to defend flags/flag runners/vehicles/real healers.
I found after a few rounds of WSG that Prot Paladins can delay the flag pickup for quite a long time and still respawn in time to throw heals in the middle. AS + Imp Hammer + JoJ is very irritating to flag running teams that haven't figured out they have to kill you up front.
Of course, it's still worlds apart from any real PvP spec.
Dec 5th 2008 10:30AM I was thinking that it could refer to Zuramat from Violet Hold by some glitch in the naming system, but the actual killer there - Void Sentry - is around page 2 of the list.
Nov 25th 2008 1:29PM Dodging and parrying give mana back too. See the description of BoSanc.
Nov 25th 2008 12:35AM They're probably just softening us up for when they give rogues the 51 point talents "Titan's Heft", the ability to equip a two-handed sword as a thrown weapon, and "Good Touch," that allows the rogue to teleport behind a friendly player and heal them.
Nov 17th 2008 11:37AM There isn't really a prot guide because there isn't significant prot gear. Ret is Blizzard's preferred leveling spec because of the gear overlap with fury. Still, you have to question the sanity of providing 40-50 different pieces of ret and holy plate in the starter zones, and not a single piece of prot.
The whole prot gear guide for Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra and Dragonblight is
0. (Optional) buy the whole Cobalt set.
1. Get the shield from Ned, Lord Of Rhinos.
2. Run The Nexus for quests.
You can confirm this with a few quick Wowhead searches:
Swap out Borean Tundra for Howling Fjord or Dragonblight. Try dodge, parry and block rating too.
There's a ton of +hit and expertise gear, spellpower gear and so forth, but for tanking and prot grinding purposes, regular old "champion" gear from the AH beats it all.

Nov 11th 2008 8:19PM As a programmer (albeit a web programmer), this sort of problem is all too familiar to me. I suspect that the problem was Blizzard's fault and was 100% avoidable, but... Well, as an experienced programmer, here's the sort of scenario that I would imagine lead up to the failure:
From: In-Game Mail Development Manager
To: In-Game Mail Development Staff
Subject: Software Architect
Hello team! After some weeks of struggling to hire a software architect for the in-game mail development team, we realized that we just could not find a local hire willing to work for $30,000. Therefore, we have decided to temporarily bring in an experienced, very skilled architect from an outside company. His name is Amir Santhanam; I've forwarded him the current discussion and hopefully he will be able to pound out an architecture so that we can move forward with development.
From: Amir Santhanam
To: In-Game Mail Development Team
Subject: In-Game Mail System Architecture
Hello, my name is Amir, I am having some comments to make on recent architecture discussion of "game mail" system.
Some programmer has suggested idea of using "database" to store all mails, I am listing here reasons why this is not possible.
First reason: Database is very complicated piece of software, it is only for experts to be using, unfortunately this team doesn't has expertise for using this kind of advanced software.
Second reason: Database is extremely expensive software, some database software can costs over nine thousand dollars! Apparently this game maybe will sell for fifty dollars for each copy, this is loss of over eight thousand, obviously we cannot puts this database software in game.
I am considering one of this tested solutions to problem of storing mails:
- XML file
- Windows registry
I will let team know soon which one of these I pick for architecture of in-game mail system, I look forward to communicate again.
P.S. I am also hear about using language "Lua" for build part of Warcraft software, I think this is bad idea. I advise that good language for writing games software is language such as C, C++, Java, C# and other languages which is very fast.
Like people have said, writing reliable software is very hard. It could be that some poorly tested "high load" mode kicked in because of the pre-wrath traffic...
...or maybe someone upgraded Sharepoint.
