Review: Blur {Joystiq}

Jun 4th 2010 7:00PM I disagree completely with the comments about SP and I suspect the reviewer didn't spent all that long with it, or just didn't click with the challenges offered.

Blur's SP reminds me SO much of going through PGR/PGR2 trying to get all those lovely Platinums - it has the same "just one more go and you'll do it" feel and it's great fun to do.

Checkpoint races can become real tests of skill and Destruction is a great laugh (dialling in a bit of a slide to hit cars remains fun for a long while). They are both vastly superior to the awful 'helicopter' and 'truck barrels' nonsense in Split Second for sure.

I reckon the SP will provide a huge amount of challenge to the people who enjoy playing the game - and that's the point here surely? If you don't like the concept, s fine, but saying it's badly structured because you want an easy-romp SP just to unlock stuff (unlocks for MP are entirely seperate in Blur - which is another great feature) is nonsense.

For me, Blur is a refreshing update but at it's core it's a PGR game which is just having a bit of a fantasy remake and I'd say anyone who really got their teeth into the Platinum challenges there will be VERY happy here.

Age of Conan offering double XP this month {Joystiq}

Nov 12th 2009 6:51PM You were clearly not there at launch then - I still can't really think back to that without shuddering...

Age of Conan offering double XP this month {Joystiq}

Nov 12th 2009 6:50PM Sorry - Aion felt backwards, a return to "kill X of these" and combat against 1 thing at a time gameplay which Conan moved away from quite well.

Aion also felt horribly, horribly generic wheras Conan had a real feel of the REH books - I genunely felt like a Barbarian and all that stuff

Age of Conan offering double XP this month {Joystiq}

Nov 12th 2009 11:51AM I tried AOC recently and thought it was great - the design is lovely, some of the areas are really amazing and the combat is better than any other MMO by miles and miles

2 things stopped me signing up beyond the first month tho.

One was that the server I'd chosen (in the EU) was very very quiet and a quick peek onto other servers showed they were also fairly short of players - there were times when it felt like a single-player game.

The other was that the monthly subs (in UKP) is a fair-bit more than WoW (and they're not discounting that) and I just think that WoW £8.99 figure is a benchmark you need to be doing something VERY special to exceed.

For me, it did create the world of Conan tho - and I didn't find the game got boring as I levelling-up either - in fact it was one of the least 'grindy' MMOs I've played.

I tried Aion after it and that felt like a massive step backwards...

Sony doth protest too much: don't call the VAIO P a netbook? {Engadget}

Jan 21st 2009 5:30AM This isn't a new idea for Sony - the idea that you 'aspire' to their rather more expensive hardware...

The other product most obviously touted in this way is the PS3 which is - err - 3rd in a 3 horse race as people 'aspire' to get a 360 and a Wii in rather larger numbers (and both for the price of a PS3 even!) :)

You don't need to be a Sony-hater to see that they've made an attractive-looking and 'different' take on the Netbook here - and people will pay a little more for that for sure - but not the THREE TIMES more it's looking like a Vaio P will be (here in the UK) over the best current Netbook.

Sony need to lay off the arrogant 'genre creating' nonsense and what amounts to 'marketting lies' and get back to making desirable kit at a price which doesn't insult the consumer but simply stuns them a bit instead - because that's worked for them upto now...

BigRedKitty: An open apology to everybody {WoW}

Nov 8th 2008 9:19PM Do you think we could force Blizzard - using Trade Description Laws - to rename the game

World of 5-a-sideCraft

World of Small Skirmish Craft

Possible slogans for the new box would include

Come fight the mighty Horde/Alliance - 5 at a time only and no pushing at the back

Fear the might of the 12 Man Zerg!

etc. etc.

One word now...

WAARRRRGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Noncombat pets bought before the patch not selling on the AH {WoW}

Oct 17th 2008 1:22PM I can understand that vanity pets aren't a big issues but being unable to sell Darkmoon Cards is a fairly big issue surely?

You CANNOT expect people to collect a set by farming them - it's near impossible to do!

They are one of the things the AH is really designed for - items which drop highly randomly and which you may not have a use for personally but for which others will pay well.

Saying DM cards aren't important is like saying BoE Blue/Purple armor isn't important...

One last chance to run Onyxia's key quest {WoW}

Oct 13th 2008 5:01PM Although most of my chars are Horde, I did level a Paladin to 70 to see how the other half live - and I even managed to get the BRD stuff done in 1 group!

When I did the Stormwind 'walk' quite a few people tagged along and it was great.

One guy even sent me a tell to say he "couldn't wait to make 60 so he could do it too".

I hope he made it :)
