Nov 1st 2008 3:31AM Coldbear, you're totally full of crap.
Plate means only 20-30% less damage from physical attacks (the bulk of damage in pvp is not physical) compared to cloth. Not a big deal. I don't understand why everyone brings up the fact that we wear plate, it hardly matters.
Our heals are garbage. Sure, they do now heal for more than they used to, but they're still rarely worth the mana and 'easily' is not nearly a strong enough word for how they can be interrupted or locked down.
As for bubble, it's our ONLY ace in the hole. We have no gap closer, heal debuff, snare, ranged attack of any kind (except repentance), no means of improving our mana pool, no abilities that get us out of trouble. All of our hand spells are completely dispellable, and none of them are very good. As soon as our bubble is on cooldown, we're the worst class in the game by a very wide margin.
Emergency heal? What emergency heal? LoH can't be used in arena.
As long as AW is tied to forebearance, it will never be used in PvP. With this latest nerf, we've lost every single significant buff we got from 3.0, and on top of it, we're competing with 8 other classes that just became far more powerfull:
A. Our bust. Seriously guys, our burst, even before the divine storm nerf, was never imbalanced in pvp. The pro arena teams were easily able to CC/kite paladins all over the place, except when we bubble. We had no offensive tools except our burst. Burst is MEANT to kill things. If the target survives a burst assault, the burst was a failure. Anytime someone gets bursted down inside of a stun, it's because your scrub teammate didn't save you, our you didn't kite us, or the paladin was bubbled.
B. Our mana. We now go oom just as easily as before, and our mana pools in wrath will be burnable down to zero in a few short seconds by priests, warlocks, and hunters. Without being burned, we'll run out of mana very quickly regardless, as soon as we do anything other than attack. High-ranked matches always last a long time, except when either team is all dps.
C. Avenging Wrath: AW was next to worthless before 3.0, because it locked us out of bubble, which was necessary for breaking CC. Once we burn our bubble and our trinket, we become a melee class with no intercept who can be kited/feared/snared into oblivion. Now things are even worse, because Forebearance lasts two minutes instead of one.
Yes, it was unbalanced to be able to pop AW and Bubble and burst down another player with complete immunity. The problem wasn't the burst, and it wasn't AW. It was the bubble. The only way paladins of any spec will ever be balanced for pvp is if Divine Shield is removed from the game, and then the class is given new abilities to compensate. The moment we don't suck, we become overpowered when we bubble, and Blizzard will never allow us to be overpowered, even if it's only 12 seconds every 5 minutes. If they balance us around bubble, we'll be (and are) worthless for the other 488 seconds.
GG Warriors, Death Knights, Rogues, Druids, Shamans, Hunters, Priests, Warlocks, and Mages. Your free kills (except when we bubble) are back, and here to stay.
Oct 30th 2008 8:18PM Booyah, Glen Burnie is like 10 minutes away from me!
Thx for the info.
Oct 30th 2008 8:09PM Anyone know of any midnight releases in or around Baltimore/Annapolis?
Oct 28th 2008 6:30AM *sigh*
There was nothing wrong with our burst. Burst was ALL we had going for us due to our lack of heal debuffs, interrupts, snares, and being easily kited. We've got one stun on a 1 minute cooldown, and that's pretty much it.
The purpose of burst is to kill things, and when Blizz decided Ret was going to be a burst spec in PvP, they gave us the burst we needed. Then the QQ reached critical mass, and our one and only edge in PvP was taken away. If a burst doesn't kill its target, the burst failed. Now that we will no longer be able to burst effectively, we will become worthless.
Honestly, the burst was only bad in 1v1. A skilled teammate has plenty of tools to rescue the focused target in arenas, and Ret was NOT dominating arenas. We were balanced, if that.
Sure, a few teams of Rets were mopping the floor with bads who didn't know how to handle us yet, but skilled teams were kiting/CCing us. After these nerfs, we won't even be worth the minimal effort it will take to burn our mana.
The ONLY thing that may have imbalanced our class was bubble. Seriously, I HATE having that damned spell, and wish Blizz would remove it and rebalance accordingly. As long as we have it, it will be a nightmare to balance.
Oct 25th 2008 7:11PM Every buff we've gotten in 3.0 is being removed one by one. Now we're back to relying on Sprititual Attunement for mana, meaning other healers have to give us special attention, thus reducing our desirability in raids.
To those of you who approve of these nerfs: everything here except the Art of War and Righteous Vengeance changes is a PvE nerf, and no one with half a brain ever thought our sustained DPS was OP, at least not at 80. Even GC himself said our PvE DPS is fine, then they turn around and slay us in a whirlwind of nerfs less than 2 weeks after 3.0, despite a "working as intended" at Blizzcon, after over 2 months of beta testing.
They claim they're being surgical. Nerfing every seal, killing our mana regen, AND completely reworking two other talents all in one build is NOT surgical.
They claim they're not nerfing people due to QQs. They hotfix our 51 pt talent 2 days after it goes live, without testing it on beta or PTR first, and after the tree had been extensively tested in beta for over 2 months and claiming the class was reasonably well balanced at 80.
In the process of Blizzard's zealous overnerfing of Ret, Holy has lost badly needed DPS for soloing and Prot has lost badly needed threat gen.
If these new changes go live, every Paladin will have been completely betrayed and lied to by Blizzard & Ghostcrawler. Thanks Blizz!
Oct 19th 2008 1:42PM They're tracked retroactively when one of the following conditions is met:
a. You have completed a quest that coincides with the objective (example: Arugal Must Die!), excluding daily quests.
b. You possess an item that can only have dropped from the mob that must be killed (in theory. I've got the mace from Heroic Kael, yet I don't have the H-MGT achievement, and some other things like it).
Oct 18th 2008 5:18PM No, if the proc chance is determined by base weapon speed, then the more haste you have, the more often you will swing, and the more often SoC will proc. I don't think I can explain it any simpler than that.
Oct 18th 2008 3:29AM After extensive tests on training dummies, I've found that Seal of Command with Glyph of Seal of Command does slightly better DPS than Seal of Blood/Martyr. Sure, it uses a glyph slot, but most of the other glyphs aren't very good for PvE DPS anyway, and Blood's got the self-damage, which is now much more of a liability than it used to be.
Also, Command now scales with haste, as the proc-per-minute is based on base weapon speed before haste is considered.
The day Alliance gets SoB is the day it's no longer better than SoC. Ironic, eh?
Oct 14th 2008 9:34PM Does commenting on a failure of customer service qualify as 'balistic'? 'Veins popping'? I'm calm, and life will go on whether or not I get a day refunded, and I'll continue playing WoW regardless. If anyone here is hostile, it is you, calling people losers. Tsk tsk tsk.
Oct 14th 2008 9:22PM I agree. Shit happens and things break sometimes, but to treat the situation as they did, and allowing the forums to fail at the same time so we can't even communicate or hear anything they have to say outside of the 'breaking news' is just poor handling.
If they give us all an additional day of subscription, however, all will be forgiven. But I doubt it. They haven't done that in a long time.
