The Mog Log: Final Fantasy XIV did not ruin your birthday party {Massively}

Sep 4th 2010 3:38PM Here's the thing, though...

They're building and selling a game that pretty much requires multi-classing.

If you have no interest in multi-classing, don't play.

Complaining about it is like complaining that WoW forces you into fighting. It's a combat-based game where you can't do much without fighting.

Likewise, FF XIV is a multi-class based game where you can'd do much without multi-classing.

There's this weird idea in the MMO gaming space that every game has to be suitable for every player. That's why we get so many 'me-too' titles. I'm glad S-E is trying something different. I'm not sure it'll be a success, but I'm glad they're trying at least.

The Tattered Notebook: Finding the right guild {Massively}

Aug 30th 2010 12:26PM My problem is that I'd never want to be part of a guild that would accept me as a member. :)

Kidding. Sorta.

Anyway, just to give you a different perspective, my signficant other runs an EQ2 guild and her problem is that new members join and immediately start expecting handouts. And even that wouldn't be a problem if they stuck around. But they join, ask for gear handouts, then vanish a week or two later when they decide they don't like that game (I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, there).

Considering how old EQ2 is, it's a pretty safe bet that any guild you join has been around for a while and has its own flow, and it'll take you a while to find your place in that flow.

Also a lot of people do seem to solo up to level 50 or so. Remember you can always use chrono-magic to go back and enjoy group encounters you had to skip on the way up.

Flipboard for iPad app review {Engadget}

Jul 22nd 2010 2:28PM @Rpie74 What pisses me off about all the coverage is that their servers have been overloaded since yesterday morning, and no one mentions that because they all got in via early press invites. I guess there was a 5 minute period last night when the Sign In servers worked, but most people can't use this thing, which makes it a waste of time until they figure out how to use a load balancer.

The message says "We are working for the next several hours on deploying new server architecture" and it has said that since yesterday morning.

NPD: Tiger Woods 11 sales way down compared to Tiger 10 {Joystiq}

Jul 16th 2010 9:20PM @Freddie Mercury Yeah, I think you've got it right. A lot of people wanted something, anything, to see what Wii Motion Plus could do, and it was Tiger Woods or tennis.

I know that's why I bought last year's edition.

Red Dead Redemption's 'Legends and Killers' screens revealed {Joystiq}

Jul 16th 2010 4:53PM @Thorz Probably a no-sale for me. I loved RDR single player and was hoping for the western equivalent of Lost and Damned or Ballad of Gay Tony. Instead they whack 1/3 of the staff and grind out MP avatar & map packs.

Very disappointing.

APB's Dave Jones expected mediocre reviews {Massively}

Jul 3rd 2010 9:21AM It's one of those games where I can't argue with any bad reviews it gets, and yet I can't stop playing it. I guess broken games can still be a lot of fun.

New Xbox 360 250GB review {Engadget}

Jul 2nd 2010 11:10AM I upgraded to this from an original Xbox 360 (my current unit, the 3rd due to breakdowns, had a manufacture date of June 2006) and between the reduction in noise and the addition of hard disk space, it felt like a good deal to me. I'm pretty happy with the new Xbox.

Jul 1st 2010 11:52PM I agree with Valkesh, it was an awesome event and by far the most fun I've had in APB. Of the folks I was teamed with, one I knew, the other two were strangers, but by the end of a few hours I felt like "Hey, I'd group with these guys again." Not sure they felt the same about me, considering how often I wound up kissing pavement, but what the heck... :)
