Nov 10th 2008 7:08AM The main thing he wants to avoid is another Sundering. The use, or overuse, of magic is what caused the Burning Legion to find Azeroth, and thus try to destroy it. As an aspect, Malygos has been appointed to protect Azeroth. If the overuse of magic is what has caused big problems in the past, remove magic in the present and you theoreticly remove many big problems in the future. Compared to the Sundering, the lives lost in Malygos' war to reclaim magic is a tiny drop in the bucket.
Hehe, its actually very similar to our reasoning to invade Afganistan and Iraq. Not exactly retaliatory, not exactly preemptive... Somewhere in between.
Nov 10th 2008 6:54AM Yep, I plan on turning off all of my addons for wrath except gatherer. IMO questhelper is nice for getting loremaster done, but when it comes to brand new quests in brand new zones ive never seen before, I would prefer to wander around lost for a few hours. The other day I was complaining to a guildee how I've been so many places in WoW that i can't get lost anymore... Nothing breaks the fun of a good quest chain faster than a big red arrow pointing somewhere saying 'Talk to mysterious rock' or 'Kill mob X for drop.' If I wanted to do nothing but wait for my character to travel somewhere, I would turn on questhelper, but if you want to have fun questing, you gotta explore it for yourself.

Nov 8th 2008 9:35PM The way I understand it, the number of data packets required increases exponentially based on the number of players present...
Correct me if I'm wrong but:
If you have one player, you need 1 data packet for the environment. 1 packet
If you have 2 players, you need 1 data packet for the environment and one data packet of information on the other player, updated regularly, for each of the 2 players, 4 packets.
If you have 3 players, you need 1 data packet for the environment and 2 data packets on the other players for each of the 3 player, 9 packets.
If you have 1000 players, you need 1 data packet for the environment and 999 data packets on the other players for each of the 1000 players, 1 million data packets...
As you can see, since the number of data packets required increases exponentially, with the number of players you had I do not think a server anywhere would be stable once you start pvping, since when someone casts a spell it requires additional data packets to be sent out to all other players. And seeing as how pvp is often 1 instant cast spell followed by another, it could add up extremely quickly, bringing the server to it's knees... Possibly stressing the hardware enough to permanently damage it. Permanent damage = bad
