This seems to be the direction they're going with DK tanking. I'm seeing a lot of back and forth and wishy-washy statements in Blizzard I've never seen, nor had I ever wished to see before. It disturbs me to the core what Blizzard has in store for this game. From all info available, I assume they're going for universal roles. Every class that has this the same role as another, has the same abilities in some manner. Every tank will be able to AE threat and good DPS, every healer with get AoE heals and every DPS will get crowd control.

If this game turns into something of a corner trick, I fear for the amount of "harder" core gamers that will leave it for something else, including myself. I just don't want a downward spiral.

Aug 30th 2008 7:35PM After speaking with a friend of mine, I realize my last statement came off as very crass, I apologize.

While BoSanc in its current state is very nice for the situations I had mentioned, I don't feel this change was oriented and kind of takes a step back from our "AoE tank" role. Changing this to a % from a flat rate seems like something more that a Warrior would enjoy(though they have a couple talents similar to this one).

To explain, and this will be without the fact that the number calculated on the blessing in its current state is figured before AC Mitigation, is that 3% on a smaller hit isn't going to do much. If someone hits you for 100 dmg, 3 damage is taken off. I might quote the person next to me who read this, "Whoop dee doo." The point where this blessing becomes useful is on slow, hard hitting bosses. The EXACT opposite of what it's intended for right now..

As frustrating as this is, I'll agree that it'll be far more useful to, say Warriors - even without the rage mechanic now built into it. Previously, 80 damage reduction to a class that can block 3 hits every 6secs, and thus probably won't be tanking AoE pulls is FAR less impressive than it is to a Tankadin that can block 8 hits every 10secs. Oh well, it's beta..

Aug 30th 2008 5:49PM "The current version of Blessing of Sanctuary merely deals additional damage with every block... a Blessing so unattractive that it's only ever applied when all other Blessings were covered. It is a talent most tanks pick up simply because it's on the way to Holy Shield. It generates additional threat, sure, but threat generation was never the big problem for for Tankadins. More often than not, the problem is mana. Being able to tank a lot of mobs is cool and all, but having to drink after almost every pull most definitely is not."

Blessing of Sanctuary is far superior for a Tankadin in any AoE situation or in a boss fight where the enemy's attack speed is a very fast rate. You are forgetting the "reducing damage dealt from all sources by up to 80" making the small-yet-fast hitters feel like a pinch when this is applied.

I won't even get into my argument with the whole mana "issue" Tankadins have, or don't have in my opinion. Just know your opinion, and I use that word very strongly, on BoSanc very obtuse.

I could go into a few problems, that those with a beta key seem to be having, like being rune starved and RP capping too often. But I won't pretend to understand the rune system 100% as I've never touched it - and I'm a hands-on kind of guy. But I will discuss what I can visually come to conclusions on as bad ideas. To begin, I'd like to start by saying I typically love Blizzard's inability to give into the whiners, "noobs" and children that play this game. Blizzard has always had a knack for doing things their own way, whether people like it or not. And... come on, has Blizzard ever made a game people didn't like? But I'm afraid this time they've made a mistake.

Now I think it's very cute that Blizzard has the idea in their head that they can create a "tanking" class with not one tanking tree, but it is pure ignorance. And I'll explain exactly why.

Thinking that each tree will be able to tank is something that is 100% feasible, and from the way things are setup right now - you'll be able to tank with each spec, no problem. But to think that each tree can tank heroics and raids by going down only 1 tree is complete ignorance. To believe that people won't "cherry-pick" tanking abilities because they WANT TO TANK is something of a very nerdy fairytale. I fear that Blizzard's assumption is this: People only have fun if they're DPSing. This would explain their need to change every tanking class into something of a DPS/Tanking hybrid. I'm here to say whole-heartedly that DPS is as boring as watching grass grow... On my Mage and my Rogue, I'm #1 DPS most every time I raid with them. Is it hard? Is it interesting? Does it keep me on the edge of my seat? No, no and no; Scorching and Fireballing or SSing and SnDing all night isn't the most intense of activities this game has to offer.

I've got news for the devs up there, some people just like tanking. Now this may come as a shock to everyone, but I swear it's true! I have a dedicated character for tanking, and I like that toon more than any others I have, he gets the most attention and has the best gear out of all my 70s. I am pretty sure I'm not the only person like this. But, Blizzard doesn't seem to care. They strip the game of crushing blows, kill Shield Block, destroy Paladin tanking's uniqueness and now our ever-awaited "4th tanking class" doesn't even have a dedicated tanking tree!

The point is, every tanking class has a tanking tree. This class won't. And every 5/10/25man group wanting a tank will choose a tank with a tanking tree first. This won't change just because their cute ideas and hopes say they will.

In short: No, DPSing isn't the best part of the game for everyone. Yes, only the real tanks of any class "cherry-pick" their talents for their tanking role, they always have and will continue to do so. And they're destroying the math, know-how, strategy and fun that tanking is currently. Continuing down this road will take this game, simplify it, dumb it down, gut everything it is currently until none of their more adult players care to stick around anymore. This is quickly becoming a SWG fiasco..
