Breakfast Topic: Why Blizzard should make authenticators mandatory on accounts {WoW}

Sep 14th 2009 10:18AM I doubt you'll see an opinion about it since it won't do anything. It would be incredibly easy to simply take the pixels on the screen around the mouseclick. Boom, security feature defeated.

A compromised system is inherently insecure. No matter how you enter the password, the malicious code need simply watch you do it and send the results to the attacker.

An external system (Authenticator) protects against this (fairly) well. It's not perfect (given that the 30 second window does allow someone to get in right after you), but it is 100x better than any solution on the compromised machine.

Breakfast Topic: Why Blizzard should make authenticators mandatory on accounts {WoW}

Sep 14th 2009 10:00AM This would not fix the problem at all. The keylogger program can execute arbitrary code on your system. That means (try to follow along here) that if the program were written to target WoW, it would simply take the contents of the screen around the mouse click and send those to the hacker.

The ONLY thing that can protect you against a targeted malicious piece of code is an external system, like an authenticator.

Official class forums to be replaced with role forums [UPDATED x2] {WoW}

Oct 30th 2008 2:53PM "What's more, there won't be any place to discuss class-specific issues and get class-specific feedback and be assured the devs are looking for feedback on your class."

Except that was never the point of the class forums. They were to talk to players about issues, not address them to the devs. If you want something in the game changed, you should go to the suggestion forums.

Forum post of the day: Table plz {WoW}

Jul 9th 2008 11:02AM No offense to all the locks getting all excited about this, but honestly, you might as well drop a soulwell, it costs you the same thing as making a soul shard for yourself.

In essence, it costs you nothing at all. Unless you weren't going to have a healthstone for yourself, which is just silly.

Whereas a mage actually has to pay (however piddling the amount) for every table.

WWI '08 Death Knight Demo: Unholy spells and talents {WoW}

Jun 30th 2008 10:30AM Unless you're a pally. I'd love for some DK to pop his anti-fear just to get feared by a pally.
