May 5th 2011 6:15PM WoW and grad school take someone who can manage their time well. You have to put down raid/farming/other commitments when you have research things to do. I was able to do it only by forcing myself to NOT play at all when I was writing my dissertation.
I had to uninstall WoW from my laptop so I couldnt play it for the 3 months I was writing. It was hard, but on occasion while I was writing, I would pop onto vent and listen to what was happening and chat with my friends. It was really draining to do both at times, but it was a lot of fun.
Even more fun, I was working a research job while writing as well. :)
May 5th 2011 6:08PM Hooray for more physicists playing WoW :)
Technically, I am also a Physicist but my specialization is in Astronomy even though 2 of my 3 degrees are in Physics.
1. The Higgs hasn't been proven to be one or the other, but it's theory came from a missing spot in the scalar and vector boson multiplets. "... an essential feature of the type of theory which has been described in this note is the prediction of incomplete multiplets of scalar and vector bosons." - Peter Higgs
2. The problem with keeping up with the most recent science is that since the data is proprietary for a certain amount of time, the data may not make it out for a year or two until the paper is finished. You could look things up on arxiv and see if something is published.
Feb 23rd 2010 2:13PM Our guild was 10-man strict till last night.
We had not realized that they had changed the rules for the "strict" rankings with ICC and that instead of having a certain number of raid members getting the achievements all at once, it builds up over time. Just the other night one of our member's alts ran a 25 ICC pug with another guild, and that happened to be be 8th person in the guild that had killed marrowgar on 25 ICC 10.
Oh well, we prided ourselves on having a small close knit guild of about 10-12 people that raided for fun, and kept up mostly with the other strict 10 guilds (we were 7th on the server, and 4th on the alliance side). Sigh
Feb 8th 2010 12:03AM One little think you might want to fix:
"That all said, the 25/50% chance to dispel poison is useful in 5 and 10-mans when you might not have another healer who can dispel poisons, so it might be worth taking if you find yourself solo healing."
Its actually 50/100% chance. I actually love that talent for making heroics go faster, getting rid of my own poisons, and getting people out of AOE faster :)
Dec 23rd 2009 5:49PM "I love using axes, and I'm currently sporting Nighttime from the heroic version of Forge of Souls. While I'm sad that I can't find a great OH axe to go with it"
Forgive my rogue ignorance, two of [Nighttime] wouldnt do for you? I assume you want a different speed in the OH? My experimental DW Frost DK loves having 2 of those axes.
Dec 4th 2009 8:03PM My DK has this too, also has the Edge of ruin for DPS. I just cant bring myself to do the rune swap so I suffer with the Edge for now as dps. Its a good thing I am always tanking :P
Nov 24th 2009 3:53PM I can haz mouse?
Nov 23rd 2009 8:34AM Sign me up, omg :)
Nov 13th 2009 5:11AM oh I have a feeling I am going to hate healing that fight.
