Dec 9th 2008 9:39AM My main who has been a resto shaman since 60 (I can't remember but I think I leveled resto in BC even) respec'd to enhance for questing in Northrend. I keep a bank of healing gear and update it whenever I can so its probably good enough to heal most pugs at my level(77).
One thing about healing I've found compared to DPS which turned me off is the stress levels. As a DPS I can watch football while I mash 1-2-3-4 and when a ding tells me I have low mana I hit my shamanistic rage hotkey or when a ding tells me I have 5x maelstrom i hit my chain lightning hotkey.
I plan on staying DPS for a bit at 80 in order to do some heroics to get rep and gear (hopefully resto gear as much as I can) because the gear check in a heroic on DPS is way lower (or can be made up by other group members) as opposed to a healer. In BC it was hell for me to try to gear up to heal heroics and incredibly stressful to see the bars drop so fast compared to a normal instance. It also always felt like it was my fault as the healer if we died. I enjoy healing because it is so essential, but in order to gear up some I am going to go the less stressful route before subjecting myself to that punishment again.
