Mar 11th 2009 4:34AM Although I've not really played my pally as a tank for a long while is it correct to say that The Turning Tide is not a tanking sword for pallies? I know the mechanics have changed and pallies now generally go for warrior tanking swords, but doesn't a spell power sword still give better threat for AoE tanking?
Mar 10th 2009 1:21PM It is a little of both. I'm not sure players are generally any better, but decent entry level raiding gear is a lot easier to come by than in BC. Wrath in general is easier than BC, but this is intended to increase accessibility. Whether you like it or not, although raids will become harder they will never approach the level of Sunwell Plateau. Committed raiders will have to be satisfied with the so-called 'hard modes' to provide the challenge. Many will decry this, but in all honesty I can well understand the reasoning. It makes absolutely no sense to design content that only limited few will ever see. Personally, I would quite like to see one ultra-hard raid that all aspire to beating, but it is unlikely to happen. Blizzard has committed itself to the path of easier raids with additional hard modes and achievements to cater for the more dedicated raiders. I think the problem is once people have burned through the content on the 'easy mode', most probably won't bother with the 'hard-mode', and ultimately this will hit the lifespan of the content.
Mar 10th 2009 7:52AM Although perhaps understandable, I wish there wasn't such a major obsession with Ulduar. Whenever I go on the PTR all I hear is 'LFG Ulduar'. I would like to test some of the heroics with different specs, but it is hard when everyone only seems to be interested in going to Ulduar. It doesn't help matters that the LFG tool is bugged as well.
Mar 6th 2009 11:35PM I'm slightly bemused by these changes to Howling Blast. They say they are nerfing it because it does too much AoE damage. OK, I can sort of understand that, but I went on the PTR and tried a blood spec with the buffed up Blood Boil. I was getting crits with BB in the order of 3 - 4K. Considering that BB only needs 1 rune and has no cooldown (excepting the GCD), you can spam it so much that I was putting out far more AoE dps than I ever did with the 2 rune 5s CD of Howling Blast. I just wish they would make up their mind. Why is it acceptable for Blood spec to put out a ton of AoE dps, but not frost. Indeed, for that matter why is it acceptable for warriors and rogues to put out a ton of AoE dps with whirlwind and fan of knives but not frost DK's? To me, there just seems to be a lot of inconsistency in these changes.
Mar 4th 2009 3:41AM It sounds to me that the chopper could be pretty important if the tanks have to kite him and he gains a stacking speed buff...seems to me that an oil slick to slow things down could be pretty damn important rather than 'just somewhere to stick the people who can't learn the fight'.
Mar 3rd 2009 12:14PM I'm not sure, I still think there is a lot of work to be done before 3.1 goes live. The LFG tool is currently unusable, and some inexplicable oddities with extra talent points crop up when using the dual spec system. Maybe these are minor, easily correctable bugs or maybe they're not. And I'm still not at all sure about the balance with DK's. They nerfed frost because they felt HB was doing far too much AoE damage. However I tried a blood spec on the PTR and I was doing far more AoE damage with the buffed up blood boil than I ever did with HB on my frost dps DK on live.
Feb 25th 2009 8:39PM 'But Ghostcrawler responds with an insight that all classes might benefit from hearing: Players will find a way.'
Yes, I suspect it's called respeccing unholy...
Feb 24th 2009 9:34AM Presumably with the increased damage, blood boil is intended to be the AoE aggro tool for blood tanks
Feb 24th 2009 7:15AM I ran a 2H frost build mainly because I enjoyed it and I got a raid spot because my dps was competitive with the unholy builds. Until I can test the changes I can't say for sure, but I suspect my dps will just be completely outstripped by unholy.
Feb 24th 2009 5:05AM Pitching it the same level as the Northrend 'flying tax' would seem reasonable, though I never see the point of charging people these amounts on the PTR. If they want it to be tested, then make it free on the PTR so the maximum amount of people can test it.
