Jul 16th 2008 6:57PM The problem isn't in the mechanics or abilities of the class, the problem is that 90% of hunters are why the term "huntard" exists- the ones that bitch and moan when they're told to do something to help their 5-man group because they wanted to stand at the far end of the room, send in their pet, and mindlessly roll through their rotation until they go OOM for the third time in 3 pulls. The problem with the "tank tree" for their pet is that they'd still have to spec in to use it, and why would Mr. OMG-DID-YOU-SEE-MY-MEGA-CRITS be bothered to spec away anything that would even remotely impact his precious dps?
There's a world of utility already available to hunters to make life easier for 5-mans and it means probably being 2nd or 3rd in DPS. It is not the end of the world, and it's the obligation of the player to understand the value of this. Kills come a bit more slowly but great aggro management, CC, and creative trickery can eliminate so many headaches in instance content, it can make all but boss encounters menial. Until blizzard starts punishing players for not knowing their class, WoW should just be called DPS-HURR-HURR.
