[EDITED] Patch 3.0.2 primer for Protection Paladins {WoW}
Oct 16th 2008 11:54PM @Sky_paladin, add up the points you are recommending, at level 70 it's not even close to possible to get all those talents, heck you've used up all your talent points before ever hitting the ret tree. Also, you want Benediction but are not sure about Deflection...yikes.
Divine Guardian, Benediction, and Reckoning in their current forms aren't very good for a level 80 tank, and much worse at level 70 without the points to spare.

Oct 16th 2008 10:37PM Yes, the attack speed reduction affects bosses, just like the equivalent skill from the other tanks. This was given to pallys and druids to level the playing field with Thunderclap which did the same thing in TBC.

Oct 16th 2008 10:28PM Well he's talking specifically about this latest patch, which implies level 70. Not only is there no need to grab shield of the templar, since the main skill it buffs isn't available yet, and the damage reduction hasn't been added yet, frankly there's no points for it.
There are some small errors if you wanted to nitpick, like the RF comment, though he did caveat that, but his spec is really just fine. It's the only article I've seen written here about prot pallys that I've found to be reasonably accurate.

Oct 16th 2008 10:25PM Reckoning has always proc'd off of blocks as long as they weren't full blocks, and that's almost always the case against raid mobs and certainly bosses.
Yes Judgements of the Just works on bosses, it's our version of Thunderclap.

Wrath Beta patch notes: Paladin part IV - the Protection tree {WoW}
Jul 19th 2008 7:25PM I very much appreciate you modifying your post to reflect some of the comments. A previous article here about protection paladins, which basically said we are the worst tanks, was woefully innacurrate, and the auther actually tried to justify his claims on Maintankadin (www.failsafedesign.com/maintankadin). Than ultimately has led to tankadins viewing this site from a kind of defensive position.

Jul 19th 2008 5:48PM Ugg, why does everyone at wowinsider that decides to write a prot pallys seem to have never tanked outside of a heroic?
First we DO NOT stack block rating, that's retarded. If you tank in raids block rating is useless once uncrushable. We may stack block value, and block value will work with our new shield slam. Understand the basic stats at least before you write this stuff.
Secondly, you are insane to think our new judgement is underwhelming. It is BY FAR our most powerful new talent. The 4% damage difference between us and warriors is really not a big deal. Warriors, because of all their instants get more parried swings and get crushed more, on the bosses that do crush. Ultimately, if you look at a big hitter like Brutallus, the difference, if it even exists, is neglible. However, of all the things that would separate us in a 10man where we may not have pocket warrior around, is the application of Thunderclap. This is a massive mitigator. While fast hitting bosses are nice, as you gear up beyond T4, you avoid so much anyhow that your reactive threat is already minimal. Blizzard gave us at least two new active direct damage threat abilities to use because of that problem. They synergize very well, and the new judgement is very important.
We do still lack a real emergency button, and a way to deal with silences and fears, but that's far more about encounter design than it is our new talents. If they aren't a staple of design, and they aren't now, then we will be right up there with both druids and warriors.
