Nov 7th 2010 1:43AM This system takes everything that is *bad* about raids and adds it to BGs: attendance, coordinating schedules, group politics and drama.
I was expecting rated BGs to be ... "rated". If you are rated 1157 and join a 1100-1199 BG and win, your ranking goes up, lose it goes down. But it used your rating to group you.
If I am going to the politics and hassle of this system, I will raid. This system is such a disappointment; off the top of my head I can't see how they could have made it worse and still not be arenas.
Arenas were designed to be unpopular and attract a small number of players. Perhaps Blizzard wanted to make rated BGs unpleasant enough to reduce participation?
Nov 7th 2010 1:23AM re "elemental combat is shaping up to be a very active spec. If an active rotation suit you, then persevere." Is the converse true? I.e., I loathe active rotations ( twitch is silly but especially on a non-console. ) Would I be better off not persevering and playing a better class? I was hoping ele would work to level and resto for raids but it's hard to get excited about ele atm. Suggestions?
Nov 4th 2010 5:32PM Blizzard's design goal is to homogenize all the healers (tbh they all seem less fun than TBC but at least shaman deteriorated the least.) Is there really "tank healer" and "raid healer" specs any more? Or do you still want what's left of a holy pally to tank heal and shaman's always raid heal?
What's left of the healer role orthodoxy? Does BTPNTC apply to healers? Could you raid-10 with 3 shamans now?
Oct 26th 2010 4:49PM 4000 is the total JP cap and there is no max number of VP, but have we had confirmation if the cap on valor points per week is really 4,000? That seems high. It effects the 10 vs 25 decision. If the cap is large (4000=53 bosses @ 75/boss, 38@105 ) then practically, there is no limit and 25s will provide more. If the cap is small, then a couple of ten man bosses plus daily heroics could cap you.
If they can announce the JP cap and the JP and VP per boss numbers, I think they should be able to announce the VP/week cap. Unless it really is 4000 in which case I don't understand it.
Oct 23rd 2010 2:59PM @nonentity, actually you still need to know the hitcap number; the new system is less helpful than the old. E.g., if it says you are 16.87%, Fine, but you still have to google to find out how much hit you need to get to 17. Same if you are over.
The problematic design is to have two different scales: the gear is denominated in points and the info box in %. Unless you show both somewhere, the customer has to alt-tab to his browser to find the conversion. Or ask the helpful folks of trade chat.
Oct 22nd 2010 12:55PM I do not think what you describe is the way 99% of the high volume glyph creaters operate. Or at least the scribes that put up most of the thousands of glyphs on the AH.
They do not buy the correct level herbs, they buy the best value and let Jessica fix it
They do not buy in multiple of 5. They buy when the price is right. You post 4 icethorn cheap now it will go ASAP. And they tend to buy in bulk. A moderate glypher might need dozens of stacks a day. And supply is volatile so you buy it up when you can. Over the course of a few days you accumulate herbs. Then you spend some time in an extended milling, then converting pigments to ink, and crafting session.
So the scribe is doing #1 & #2 independent of this addon and prior to making the glyph decision.
But this is a non issue since the glyph market as we know it is going away, with a slight blip for Dec 7 goblin/worgen and some new glyphs.
Oct 20th 2010 1:34AM CH Glyph: say without the glyph your main target was healed for 100. Then the next, if any is healed for 80, next 64, 51,41
Then with the glyph it is what? main for 90, next for 92 (1.15*80), 64,51,41 (last 3, if any, unchanged)?
So if you heal only the main tank 17% of the time it is a thoughput decrease? Certainly in heroics or even icc10, with no mana problems why not CH in case a melee takes some damage during the cast time? So I think I would prefer an empty slot to this? Or have I missed something?
Obviously at 81 let alone 85 it is a new ballgame. But this is Bliz and I don't thing they know where things will be in January, let alone us.
Oct 17th 2010 7:35PM There is no rest for the weary; 4.0.1 leveling. Some of us are leveling a priest (or worse another priest). My 43 sp/disc was looking at some gear but it hit me that there has been a big change. In the past while leveling the meh gear (of the eagle) had int/xxx and the good stuff had +spellpower. So now hasn't that changed; i.e. the 15 int piece is now superior to the 10sp? Does anyone have a 4.0.1 string(settings) to put in my PAWN addon?
P.S. I read where they were going to "fix" some of the gear. I found a "of the wolf" (agi/spirit) wand in my bags. Even without PAWN I know that if you are stacking agility, your tank is doing something wrong.
Oct 17th 2010 10:57AM Thank you for your efforts!
After reading some forums, I installed it a few minor versions ago and curse client has been happily updating it.
Very useful and well implemented.
Oct 17th 2010 10:51AM You probably should explain the Glyph of Mage Armor bug. It seems to not be charred or renamed, but is no longer in inscriptionists books and can not be learned. So you can only buy one made before 4.0.1.
You know how much inscriptionists priced the glyphs you should have bought for 5g on Monday? Now picture what they will price a item that can't be recreated so declining competition.
It may be hotfixed by the time you read this. Or on Dec 7th. /sigh Bliz
