Jul 24th 2008 10:36PM A bartender or anyone else checking ID sees the physical ID (so it has to be a real-looking laminated or plastic card), can check for the hologram and the information on the back, and has the actual person in front of them to verify by the photo. It's really difficult to make a fake that would actually fool anyone.
A scan's a whole different thing... You can photoshop up a real looking image of a license pretty easily, and there's nothing to check against unless Blizzard is hooking up to every state's DMV database. Not to mention they aren't about to accuse their paying customers of forgery unless it's just completely fake looking.
So this is either someone who knows something about the victim, in which case it's an isolated incident by a pretty driven person and nothing to be worried about, or it's something else entirely (like a technical bug on Blizzard's end) which could be a real problem.
