Breakfast Topic: How many of you play on a Mac? {WoW}

Nov 21st 2009 9:19AM I own a Mac, but I do all of my game playing on a PC. Each of them has their strengths.

The headline on this blog post is going to skew the results of the survey though. A lot of PC and Linux users are just going to skip over it and go on to the next post. Instead of "How Many of You Play On A Mac?" a more neutral headline would have been "What Kind of Computer Do You Play On?".

Play safe because a trojan can get you banned {WoW}

Sep 4th 2009 11:27AM Blizzard isn't doing this for us. They're doing it for themselves. The resources that are wasted doing an account recovery could be put to better uses. My guess is that the number crunchers decided if they could eliminate a percentage of user accounts getting hijacked by offering inexpensive authenticators and doing some scanning, Blizzard's bottom line will come out ahead in the end.

The Queue: Nuts and bolts {WoW}

Aug 24th 2009 11:47AM Thats not true with the Blizzard authenticator. I have a couple of accounts and can use the same code to log into each (assuming I'm logging them both in at the same time). It might make a nice upgrade to their software though.

Aug 24th 2009 11:30AM The authenticators are more secure for game use than some others. The reason is only one person can be logged in at a time. If a current authenticator code is captured and used to gain access to an account, it will boot the person who is using the account off. The natural instinct of anyone who gets disconnected is to reconnect. So, inside of a minute, the hacker is booted off, and will need to capture another code to regain access.

As a precaution though, if you're an authenticator user and you get disconnected. Don't call it a night. Log back in immediately.

It seems like WoW account hacking is a bulk business. They need a lot of accounts to waste them advertising gold sites on every server around the clock. They're going to go for the easy catch... phishing schemes, forum hacks, keyloggers and the like. I doubt they have the time to waste trying to break into an account with an authenticator.

Creative to unveil World of Warcraft headset at BlizzCon {WoW}

Aug 18th 2009 11:20AM Maybe there will be an announcement from Blizzard about better in-game voice support. We can't be expected to use third party programs forever. Vent and Teamspeak are great for COD, but an MMO should have a functional integrated option.

Creative is famous for high dollar mediocre headsets. What possible use are lights on a headset? Are WoW players so attracted to shiny things that we scarf up god awful mice and flashy headsets because the LED's can produce 16 bajillion colors?

I'll be sticking with my Sennheisers.

WoW China transition begins this month, will be down for weeks {WoW}

Jun 2nd 2009 11:56AM I wouldn't be surprised to see the character database held hostage until the9's litigation is settled. A smooth transition isn't the most likely of scenarios.

Breanni of WarcraftPets.com closes store, posts apology to Blizzard {WoW}

May 19th 2009 7:30PM My guess is they're doing this to protect the companies that license the World of Warcraft imagery legitimately. For instance Breanna's CafePress store was in direct competition with Jinx.

Win a year of Curse's premium service {WoW}

May 12th 2009 9:04AM The price seems right.

Engadget's recession antidote: win a KORG KAOSSILATOR and a copy of Matt & Kim's album "Grand" {Engadget}

Children's Week ruins Battlegrounds {WoW}

May 2nd 2009 1:29PM I've got to side with the whiners on this one. I despise running bgs, but ran more yesterday than the previous year.

Three times through EOTS and I never even managed to pick up the flag, much less return it.

I had better luck in AB and AV and still haven't tried WSG.

For the people who actually like battlegrounds, they're ruined for the week. For the people who don't like them, it's an annoyance. I don't know anyone who's happy with this achievement. Even the people who like both battlegrounds and playing the achievement game are ticked off.

At least there was never a wait for any of the BG's I queued for and I was able to get 3/5ths (4/5ths when I finally run wsg) of the great feast requirement for the chef's achievement.
