What I want to see from Mists of Pandaria PvP {WoW}

Feb 14th 2012 6:48AM An excellent column as always Olivia, and I agree with you on all points. Your ideas to improve PVP leveling in particular are excellent in my opinion, that area has been neglected far too long. More PVP and Battleground quests would be great, and I would personally love to see the return of factions for the battlegrounds that don't currently have them, along with rewards for those factions of course.

I agree that it will be really interesting to see how baseline resilience scales as players level, it will have a huge impact on low lvl PVP. I plan to collect as much info as I can on that when the beta starts and post up some detailed info on the new system. Hopefully we can get Blizzard some good feedback on any issues with it early on in the beta so they can get it to a good place for release.

Your ideas about PVP quests also made me reminice about the old days of Vanilla PVP and battlegrounds actually feeling like part of the world. One thing I miss about those early days of the battleground system is how players would congregate around the entrance to a BG (because you had to actually touch the portal to queue back then).

While I don't miss having to run there to queue up, I think it might be cool to have some PVP daily hubs near the "entrances" to Mists battlegrounds to bring players to those areas. I think It would help to re-instill a sense of community between PVP players on their realms, something which I feel has been lost over the years. It would also help to make the battlegrounds feel like they are part of the world again and part of the story, rather than just some abstract field we are killing each other on that is colored like a questing zone.

Keep up the great posts Olivia! I look forward to reading more in the future!

Ask a Beta Tester: Blacksmithing and sockets, revisited {WoW}

Aug 13th 2008 11:25PM Hey Elizabeth, the patch tonight fixed the Titanium Belt Buckle, I successfully added an uncolored socket to my belt. It does however say Requires UNKNOWN. Very odd.

Here are the screen shots. Use them if you like, and if you have any blacksmithing or smelting questions, feel free to e-mail me at although I will try to keep posting on your blogs with new info as I get it =)

Ask a Beta Tester: Blacksmithing and sockets, revisited {WoW}

Aug 13th 2008 11:04PM "The following post at Elitist Jerks really puts all the questions about socket interaction with enchants and tradeskills to bed by showing the blacksmithing req and the enchant (+15 str) alongside the socket. And with a screenshot to boot."

Thats actually a screenshot of my gloves taken from my post here on WoWinsider a few days ago. See post 75,

Ask a Beta Tester: Blacksmithing and socket slots {WoW}

Aug 12th 2008 6:59PM "A question for the Blacksmithing Sockets...So only two are BS only but do they replace Enchantments? And is Socket One-hand Weapon able to socket main-hands and is it also BS only?"

Sockets do not interfere with enchantments in any way. Weapon socketing is not yet available on the beta.

Aug 12th 2008 6:57PM "in regards to the new blacksmithing patterns to add sockets to bracers and gloves: If you add a socket to one of those pieces of equipment, does that mean you won't be able to enchant it?"

Adding a socket does not interfere with enchants in any way.

Aug 12th 2008 11:13AM The Deathknight starting area is a phased instance, there are about 3 phases, anyone in phase 1 of the instance can group together and see each other, same for the other phases. Outside players(IE high lvl help) cant get into the instances.

As for the weapons, any weapon a DK can equip based on their weapon proficiencies can be turned into a rune weapon at a rune forge, and all that does is add a special DK only enchantment of your choice.

Aug 11th 2008 10:26PM "Does Frostfire bolt count as a Frost spell (since it can do frost damage) for talents such as Ice Shards, Winter's Chill and Fingers of Frost even though (according to wotlkwiki) it is listed in the Fire spellbook?"

Its effected by both fire and frost talents according to my mage friend on the Beta.

Aug 11th 2008 10:12PM The drop rate for frostweave is very high, I have used 200 for bandages and have 500 more in the bank at 77. I cant speak on tailoring.

Aug 11th 2008 4:37PM Hi this is Eldacar of boulderfist I play on the lich king beta realm, and hit 450 smithing last night. I wanted to let everyone know the details on the new sockets made by blacksmiths. Hopefully Elizabeth can fit this info into her blog somewhere too! =)

The bracer and glove sockets are blacksmith only and both add uncolored sockets that accept any color gem, they will add the socket even if the item already has a socket. Currently I have not tested if you can use these sockets to meet socket bonus requirements, however I have verified they do not cause problems if you have already met the requirements. The trade able epic belt socket, titanium belt buckle, is bugged and not currently applying the socket to your belt, despite consuming the item, it is safe to assume it will add an uncolored socket as well though.
