Nov 9th 2011 3:51PM I've been reading celticman245's posts from way back, and it reads like a litany of negativity. Just chill dude -- you're getting too worked up about a game. If it is dead to you, then just quit and save yourself a future aneurysm.
Sep 8th 2011 9:55AM This. I'm using that pop gun to augment a blue set I'm putting together.
Jan 31st 2011 11:24PM Good point. The only reason I used the stalker was because I haven't tamed a croc. In truth, I'm not so sure the pet's movement reduction abilities are coming into play at all with entrapment as effective as it is already. I might actually be better off with a pet stuck on Magmaw fulltime to help with dps and providing buffs /debuffs.
Jan 31st 2011 2:15PM We do Magmaw on 10-man with myself (a SV hunter) as the only ranged and in charge of solo kiting all parasite spawns. I'm specced into entrapment and I do use a Warp Stalker (although entrapment appears to be all that is really needed to solo kite). The rest of the raid stay melee ranged and full-time on the boss (aside from a healer who keeps his eye on me). This is our 4th week successfully doing it this way and while it is no fun for the hunter (I've hated this duty since Gluuth), it seems to free up the rest of the raid to burning Magmaw down cleanly. Only twice have I seen Pillar of Flame NOT targetted on me -- and that may have been because one of the other raiders was a tad bit out of the melee group, but it's hard to be certain.
Oh and to all hunters on kite-duty, watch your Disengages:) I've hurled my self into the lava pit by accident trying to escape Ignition. That went well.
Feb 11th 2010 1:30PM Thank god for dual specs, tho. Like many a hunter, I "grew up" with Beast Master-- not because it was the easiest, but because it seemed to like the most appropriate for the class. After all, if a Hunter class was distinguished by the fact that he had a pet, didn't it make sense that a spec wherein the pet was the emphasis make sense? Or maybe I was just too lazy to test out the other specs -- whatever.
So now I raid with SV which I'm happy with, but I always keep my BM spec handy for extreme soloing or daily grinding.
Once again, thanks for a great article.
Feb 8th 2010 11:57AM my favorite parts of "growing up" a hunter were learning to chain trap effectively, as well as kite a mob correctly. nowadays, it's tragic that most players are judged by their gear score -- back then, hunters were judged by the disappearing art of efficiently managing the few tools available to us. good times!
Feb 4th 2010 10:03AM Another satisfying read. Always look forward to your articles, as they are done with some flourish and humor, but most of all, substance.
Too many players fixate on static information such as Gear Score and, to an extent, spreadsheets. And while I admit that gear and itemization tends to announce somewhat how serious, or how knowledgeable, a player may be (or the inverse), it isn't and shouldn't be the main determinant. Nothing proves a player like experience: I would rather group with a hunter who is under-geared but has proven him/herself as an effective player, then with a completely decked out hunter who has showed me in past groupings why our class frequently gets criticized.
PS: In the same vein, I'd rather group with a noob-ish player who I enjoyed grouping with rather than take a tour of duty with an expert player but a complete @$$ -- you know the type who come of as arrogant, condescending, holier-than-thou, i'm-right-you're-wrong alpha types? oh wait... that's pretty much the entire trade channel ;P
Jan 28th 2010 12:21PM Have been using deterrence during blight on the suggestion of another hunter, and it APPEARS to work (have to do some numbers checking to confirm). I am still getting 2-3 inoculations so maybe it could be my imagination, or the healers have been really kicking ass, because i haven't gone beyond 80-85% health during blight. But like I said, haven't been diligent enough to check the numbers. Anyone else have more definite info on this?
