Earth Eternal facing the prospect of shutdown {Massively}

Aug 9th 2010 5:59AM I am saddened by this news. This, along with the somewhat recent closing of Near Death Studios makes for a pretty bad past year.

As the owner of a gaming company that has just released a new online RP (Primordiax - www.primordiax.com) this sort of news makes me pretty nervous. Is the economy this bad right now? Is it possibly to succeed if you aren't Activision or Zynga?

Anti-Aliased: I like walking into towering infernos (like the Champions Online C-Store) pt. 2 {Massively}

Oct 30th 2009 5:28AM Seraphina Brennan, how many level 40s do you have in Champions Online?

1) There are a zillion ways to mess up your character whether you "do your homework" or not. I've had to help countless guildmates fix their characters after they made very logical, but unfortunately very bad, choices.

2) People like me are the exception. I enjoy crunching numbers and planning builds. Most people don't. Most people don't pay $50 + $15 a month so they can "do their homework" instead of actually playing the game they paid for.

The solution to making people team up more is not making them have gimpy characters because they regret power picks. That's asinine.

The free retcons, while nice, come only when Cryptic feels like it. They changed the way their entire stat system - twice - and didn't give people a retcon for a month. They also had weekly nerf patches. No surprise - they lost about half their players during that month.

To effectively only have access to a reasonable priced retcon when Cryptic feels like it is not a solution. A real system is inherently balanced so people can reasonable obtain them when THEY need them - not when Cryptic wants to give them.

And since they don't stack, the fact that they gave out three actually turns into 1 for a lot of people.

Oct 30th 2009 5:15AM This review of the C-Store was published a week ago. It makes a few similar points. You might want to check it out or link to it in the article:

One Shots: Raising a glass {Massively}

Feb 26th 2009 4:31PM The reason it is getting so much press is because MMOs shutting down is a big deal. With a non-MMO, it doesn't matter if the company goes out of business. For example, IronLore closing shop doesn't mean I can no longer play Titan Quest.

But when an MMO shuts down, tens of thousands of people are no longer able to play the game they love - AT ALL. They lose track of friends in game, and can no longer experience the characters they put a lot of their own imagination into.

That is why it is a bit sad and a big tragic.

Vehicle controls in Wrath {WoW}

Aug 27th 2008 4:00AM There is a good article that summarizes everything known about the siege vehicles here:

Exclusive: Richard Bartle on how he'd make World of Warcraft better {Massively}

Aug 26th 2008 12:42AM This was the most brilliant and spot on analysis of WoW I think I have ever read.

Dr. Bartle, I have always respected you, but today that grew about 1000 fold.

Aug 14th 2008 3:18PM This reminds me of my Linken's Boomerang. I kept that thing forever, until I absolutely HAD to clear space. I am still sad that it is lost to me. :(
