Feb 20th 2009 8:15PM Translation of the Korean Team's statement:
"We based our arena strategy on OP classes. Now a new class is OP, and we didn't switch in time. We are going to QQ as loudly and publicly as possible and hope for nerfs so our preferred classes return to being OP."
Same thing for the Resto Druid.
Arena was not "balanced" before DKs entered the game. It has never been balanced, ever. Not one season of balanced play in the years it has been in the game.
DKs and Paladins (esp. Holy) will be nerfed into obscurity. This will not balance anything. New OP classes will take their place. Then the community will rant about them.
The Arena, as it was intended, is a failure. It only really reflects the skill of the players, on equal terms, when the most OP team comp faces itself. If your class is not in that comp, thanks for playing, we have some lovely consolation epics.
This is not e-sport.
I am just glad that I am not forced to Arena to get near best-in-slot gear to supplement my PvE until I get lucky drops anymore. I have not bothered with the Arena once since Wrath came out, and my life is much less stressful as a result.
Feb 8th 2009 1:17PM HoT healer doesn't like HoT removal. Really?
DKs are designed to be a very strong anti-caster class. Part of that is shutting down healers with silences, interrupts for cast-time heals, and HoT removal.
Druids are going to have to adapt to DK comps by finding a different strategy than the usual HoT-and-run that served them so well for the past several seasons.
DKs are a very young class. They have only been in the general population for about 4 months, and even less in terms of arenas. So calls to completely remove elements of their playstyle at this point are very premature.
Conclusion: "Matches with this class are not trivial for me, so this class should be changed."
Jan 14th 2009 11:38AM I'm interested in what you think would need nerfing on Holy Paladins. The main qq I see about them is mana longevity thanks to Divine Plea, making drain teams much less effective, but it reduces healing done and is dispellable. Mobility is still pretty low, heals are still interruptable, and the only big new trick is Beacon of Light, which doesn't work if we are out of line-o-sight of the beacon.
I would hope that this wouldn't be a jealous-nerf because one class has a particular problem killing Holy Paladins, or because they are now suddenly number one healers instead of dead last in the ranks, as with the last....every season.
Nov 23rd 2008 3:18PM The Culling is roughly the beginning of Arthas' journey to joining with the Lich King. It is possible that there is lore as yet revealed as to why it is important that Arthas and only Arthas be the one to do this.
If Arthas were stopped, the Lich King could have just as well found a new body to play host to his armor. There has been speculation that we will not destroy the Lich King in the last raid of Wrath, but possibly purge or exorcise Ner'zhul from Arthas.
Its kinda Darth Vadery, but there could be some good left in Arthas that allows him to internally battle for his own redemption, weakening Ner'zhul enough for us to defeat him. Whereas a nonpaladin, a person with no attunement of the Light, would have less or no internal conflict of this kind, and the Lich King would be unstoppable. The choosing of Arthas as a host could be Ner'zhul's biggest mistake and Azeroth's only hope.
But thats only speculation. I have a feeling things will be clearer when we have all of the content of Wrath revealed.
Nov 23rd 2008 3:47AM You are absolutely right about a hard gear reset. (but not about "taking" gear away, that's dumb)
If they had tuned the leveling gear so that T4 was replaced by 74, T5 by 76, and T6 by 78, or something similar to that, these world firsts would not be happening so quickly and the content would last longer.
Newsflash: Hardcore QQ leads to Hardcore QQ. If there hadn't been such an outcry by hardcore raiders to not replace epic gear quickly with Northrend gear, then raiders would have had to grind out full gear sets from Heroics before standing a chance in raid content tuned for level 80+ gear.
Instead, Northrend is a joke. Leveling is dull and pointless as I vendor all the quest rewards and stick to my current epics. Mobs go down like paperdolls. Group/elite quests are entirely soloable. Northrend just feels like a chore, something to complete without feeling.
Nov 4th 2008 2:14PM I am OVERJOYED that they put the Daze back into Shield Bash. Many warriors overlook the bonus damage that Heroic Strike does to Dazed targets, but it is significant. This is great for PvP Prot because you can charge in, Bash, queue HS, and Devastate for an inescapable damage combo.
For PvE, with the new Revenge Glyph you can also get your next HS free after Revenge, meaning you will almost always have rage to Bash beforehand.
Oct 31st 2008 6:46PM Any WoW movie should be CG. If they make it live action they'll just have to CG tons of stuff around them anyway.
I only ask that they don't include Space-goats and the Sha'tar and all that mess, at least not until a sequel. There's enough lore to chug out in the first 5 mins without all that mess.
Oct 30th 2008 4:38PM Unfortunately, this already exists. Its called Trade chat, and everyone sees how great that is with every class talking about each other. Classes don't play well together when it comes to a reasoned discussion about balancing and class roles. I pity the first paladin to post in the DPS forum.
Oct 30th 2008 4:34PM I understand that the devs want a more condensed forum system to make their life easier when checking concerns, but I think it will backfire. A topic in a single class forum usually fades from Page 1 (sorted by creation time) in a few minutes, now think of every class posting in the same forum, DPS lets say, and imagine how quickly your post will disappear into the abyss? Maybe you had a great point or valid concern, but if a dev isn't on at that exact minute you post, then its all down the drain. Sorting by responses just puts the flame-fests at the top usually.
This is not even considering the deluge of trolling that will occur. Right now, a troll will generally sit in one class forum and bait everyone with how OP or how suck their class is and blah blah blah, now they can troll EVERY class from one forum.
I don't see how this will raise the level of forum discourse at all. Perhaps the forums will be more closely moderated so that trolls and flames get taken down faster. I doubt it.
Oct 24th 2008 11:54AM This event was poorly planned. The idea of the plague infesting all of Azeroth and turning towns into Zombie infested holes seems great, unless of course you are still leveling, or more specifically, paid extra to Dual-box Recruit-a-Friend level to get some extra toons up to Outland before the Wrath launch.
Now that many if not most low level towns are being infected on a regular basis, its exceptionally difficult to get through low level areas since the quest givers and other NPCs are usually dead or zombies. Not to mention same-faction high level zombies griefing every low level player trying to quest and level up.
Yes, my 70 paladin can take down an entire raid of frail zombies, but I don't care about doing anything on my 70s at this point. I want to get some toons leveled but its almost pointless to even log in at this point.
