Know Your Lore: Current Alliance politics -- the humans, part four {WoW}

Jul 6th 2010 1:53PM I like all the KYL articles, even (and especially) those with heavy speculation. In fact, the KYL articles are some of my favorites on this site, and I've even read Ms. Stickney's blog because I'm such a "lore nerd." I do want to make a comment though, not necessarily on the post but an issue with the posts. Specifically one of grammar.

A good rule of thumb is to remember that the only thing you do with "Regards" is send them. (Like signing a letter "Best Regards" or just "Regards."

The first sentence of the article ends with : "see with regards to the current political situation of the human race."

It should be: "see with regard to the current political situation of the human race."

It's a simple rule to correct a very common grammatical error.

Keep up the good articles, it's never to early to start speculating about the lore behind patch 4.1 - :)

The Light and How to Swing It: Gearing a new level 80 ret paladin, part 3 {WoW}

Jun 25th 2010 9:45AM Pallies don't need any spell power on plate thanks to the talent Sheath of Light, it turns 30% of your attack power into Spell Power. In fact, you will not find any DPS Plate with Spell Power or Intellect on it in Northred, outside of perhaps a random green "of the Gorilla" item with Intellect and Strength. Rets then share their gear with Warriors and DK's but get comparatively little from all the Armor Pen found on most plate gear. So, if at all possible you want to find DPS plate with Strenght, Stamina, and some combination of Hit, Expertise, Crit, or Haste. That said, Armor Pen is not worthless, but it is on par or slightly below Haste in benefit for a Paladin, until very High gear levels. So do not turn down plate items with Armor pen because in many cases it can be difficult to find more "Ret Friendly" items. Rogue leather, as long as it doesn't have armor pen on it, and in some cases even when it does, can also be suprisingly good for Rets, in fact many Ret Best in Slot items from ICC are rogue leather items.

The Light and How to Swing It: Gearing a new level 80 ret paladin, part 2 {WoW}

Jun 17th 2010 5:47PM I'll start by saying this is a great site, but man an extrememly outdated gear list which will be followed by part three simply listing the badge ear available - is tough to take. You have some extremely talented bloggers here that provide good insights into different aspects of thier classes - dpsing, healing, talent analysis, theorycrafting, boss analysis and so forth. Retribution articles are generally few and far between and consist almost entirely of either A. a run down of patch updates for the spec, or gear listings.

The gear list in the first part of this article last week actually listed a tanking cloak as a potential option because it had some strenght on it. Any Ret Paladin would know that at an intro level the blue BOE Cloak of Bloodied Waters that sells for a pittance on the AH is the best a new ret pally will get until they start raiding, outside of an ilvl 200 epic strength cloak in regular TOC 5 man. Heck, that blue BOE lasted a number of rets right into Ulduar until Blizzard finally put some new Strength DPS cloaks in the game, and someone who raided or played a Ret paladin would know that.

I feel compelled to say that the Ret 101 articles just didn't have a feel to them that the person writing them was really very familiar with the spec. Rets end up with 6 points to spend after all DPS talents are taken that can lead either to a Raid Wall ability or Aura mastery. Based on what was written I had to wonder if the author really knew or took the time to figure out what those abilities were or what benefits they might provide. Rets often get labled as facerolling because of their First Come First Serve type of rotation and because they are so easy to level. The Ret 101 articles seemed to be written by someone who bought into this misconception whole heartedly.

I would love to see Retribution paladins with a blogger on this site doing more, one dedicated full time to the spec who raids, who runs pvp, who theorycrafts and knows about addons and boss strategies and seems generally excited about being a ret paladin. You've had all calls for apps to write about so many specs and have gotten some very talented bloggers, here's hoping Ret paladins get one in the near future.

PS. Everyone who is so excited about getting a gear listing that could be found by spending just a little time on WowHead can proceed to downrank the crap out of this post.

What will fury do in Cataclysm? {WoW}

May 27th 2010 2:38PM Everyone commenting at Mythik realizes he was trolling right? And that by flaming insanely at his comment you're just ensuring that he or someone like him will make the same post again. As a ret pally main I will agree we've been hit with a lot of nerfs since wrath's launch, but going on about it like some have in these comments just makes everyone think Mythik's comment about Paladins being "flower picking fancylads" is right.

The Light and How to Swing It: Gearing a new holy paladin at 80, part 2 {WoW}

May 24th 2010 10:41AM A Dazzling Eye of Zul will get you the blue socket bonus and meet your blue gem requirement for the meta gem. As for meeting a socket bonus or a meta requirement on a red slot, a Luminous Amitrine (+12 spell power and +10 intellect) would be better than a nightmare tear as well, and obviously Brilliant Kings Amber (+20 intellect) goes in every other socket. For a holy paladin there really is no reason to use a nightmare tear in any socket when there are better options.

The Light and How to Swing It: Gearing a new holy paladin at 80, part 2 {WoW}

May 24th 2010 9:46AM Why would you use a nightmare tear for your blue gem as a holy paladin? The only good thing on it is the +10 intellect, every other stat it gives is not needed. If I want to socket blue gems on my pally I go with a Dazzling Eye of Zul (+10 Intellect and +5 mp5) The mp5 isn't amazing but its more useful then +10 to every other stat besides intellect. And if you were wanting the stamina for increased survivability then a Timeless Eye of Zu with +10 intellect and +15 stamina would still be better for you.

The Queue: Fargo (the flood, not the movie) {WoW}

Mar 19th 2010 5:10PM Can you attach multiple authenticators to one account. I travel a bunch and i'm forgetful as all get out, so i have multiple computers I play WOW on. it would be nice if I could just leave an authenticator at each computer, and I don't have an iPhone with no plans to get one just to have a mobile authenticator.

Breakfast Topic: What do you do after raids? {WoW}

Feb 10th 2010 11:19AM This is completely unrelated to the topic above, but is that Matt's dwarf priest in ICC gear still rocking the Legendary Healer Mace from Ulduar? The one that was supposed to be sharded/destroyed when Matt's prediction on the drop date of Icecrown was off?

Ghostcrawler on Cataclysm's talent tree philosophy, abilities, and Ragnaros {WoW}

Jan 29th 2010 9:54AM People wanting talent points to throw "wherever they want" should have played a ret pally before they removed Seal of Blood. We had 11 completely worthless talent points that did nothing to increse damage. It was not fun, it was infuriating. When you are a dps you want to spend your points to dps - not spend your points to shave one minute of your BoP or or add extra armor to your charachter. Now we have 6 points to essentially throw into whatever we feel like and I'd faceroll from here to kingdom come for those points to actually increase my damage. Getting back additional "utility" points in Cataclysm when we've had them for the entirety of Wrath is not something I'm looking forward too.

New columnists announcement and call for shaman columnist round 2 {WoW}

Jan 25th 2010 3:33PM I meant "a writer that did more than provide a link to gear that drops in instances" I = fail at typing :)
