The 2800 invade Star Trek Online -- and we have on-the-scenes footage {Massively}

indeed. atari was apparently in a "holding pattern" while Perfect World seems to really like the fact they have their hands on a notable IP and are pouring money into the game (as witnessed by a notable increase in hiring at Cryptic since the acquisition)

after clearing up the mess for the rushed launch that was required by the terms of the license the game has got much better but it lacks the same thing it always lacked which is PvE content.

as a previous commenter said tho the content added has got better and better in quality as time has went on and if they can up the rate at which it is produced using some of those new devs...well i think the game still has some legs...maybe not as a "main" mmo for many people but its defiantly worth a look if you fancy dipping your toe in a little Trek.

one last note: the foundry missions (PvE missions created by the fans themselves) are some of the best stuff in this game and somewhat unique in mmo circles.

Blizzard job listing mentions 'product placement' within its next MMO {Massively}

Jan 23rd 2012 12:26PM Mark my words: this game will also have mandatory social networking (like the failed "real ID" push) and Battle.net will start hosting Activision & 3rd party games as they move to leverage their playerbase as a business asset...

Star Wars: The Old Republic posts new video for future content updates [Updated] {Massively}

Jan 20th 2012 1:41PM sigh

the only reason half the posters here attack swtor they way they do is because they are wow fans and see the game as a threat.

ive played many, many mmos (its why i come to this site) for many, many years and swtors problems are neither hugely large nor hugely out the ordinary.

in other games i've seen as transiently "broken" PvP (AV alone springs to mind...many times) i've seen major engine performance issues, borked phasing and item related problems indeed i can think of direct parallels for almost every issue and the only difference is that in the majority its been people "on the inside" criticising it because they want it fixed rather than those who are quite clearing not and instead are indulging in attacking a game they do not want to play and are trying to convince others they should not play either.

one of the biggest, most partisan "tribes" of "gamers" feels this game is a threat and their response, their very obviously oot response is more interesting to watch from a sociological pov than in terms of content.

swtor is doing well, it will continue to do well.

it had one of the most successful and stable (given the numbers involved) launches i have ever seen or heard of in MMO circles. they have content (complete with story and VA) planned years in advance and they are gonna roll it out month after month. content sidelined to hit launch date will be put in place post launch, new features will be added, issues will be addressed, bugs will be fixed, the game will get better and better great many people will continue to play happily.

wow will not die and neither will swtor.

get used to it.

cause i really can't arsed listening to pages and pages of people like the asshat on mmo champ who went so far as to edit Wikipedia (with false information about how much swtor cost to make and then post a big intellectual looking post complete with maths to try and illustrate how the game was destined to fail and there fore imply no one should play it) EVERY SIGNAL TIME I VISIT ANY WEBSITE ABOUT MMOS.

Research firm: SWTOR has 350,000 peak concurrent users {Massively}

Jan 3rd 2012 10:52AM more than half wow's servers (and players) are in china where it makes only 6% of its profits.

look at the numbers again.

the real question is how many of those 491 WoW servers are US & EU

The Soapbox: Adding story to SWTOR {Massively}

Dec 29th 2011 6:37AM @EdmundDante

is already been said they have the voice acting and story done far in advance of where the story is at the games launch and all the major voice actors are signed to long term contracts.

totalbiscuit has a post launch developer interview where they talk about exactly this (amongst other stuff) up on youtube and honestly the idea that they wouldn't write and work on the story and va and future content etc beyond the launch prior to it it is suggesting they are little more than rank amateurs...which they very clearly aren't...except in the mind of the guy who wrote the article and a million or so wow fanbois i guess...

BioWare's docs: Free-to-play can't invest and create at our level {Massively}

Dec 29th 2011 6:24AM @ImperialPanda

how would you judge a counter proposal that its going to be irrevocably tied to a Blizzard social networking hub that will be a rebranded Battle.net being Activison's version of steam with 3rd party games and the game itself with be a poorly written (because Metzen lost the spark along while ago) hardcore raid focused pile of crap dominated by lead developer Tigoles view of what an MMO should be ?

i mean im just asking because all the pointers are already out there floating around if you care to look...

Search your feelings, you know it to be true...

BioWare's docs: Free-to-play can't invest and create at our level {Massively}

Dec 28th 2011 9:05PM @ImperialPanda

oh i'd take that bet

anyone placing money on an original Blizzard IP is probably way too blinded by nostalgia and fanboyism.

small pointer: Blizzard are shit at original thought. its simply not what they do (well).

The Soapbox: Adding story to SWTOR {Massively}

Dec 27th 2011 5:43PM they started writing this game 6 years ago. the writing was the first thing set in motion.

do you honestly think the games launch date is where those already written story arcs end ?....
