Jan 7th 2009 1:07PM what third-world country did you grow up in?
and having a record and having a time-out, a bit different, no?
Jan 7th 2009 12:59PM and said private company felt obligated because of the laws in our police state to rat out this kid, give the cops his home information without a warrant and all not out of any real corporate integrity (oxymoron of the year), but so they wouldn't be liable.
that's why it's a policy. not to save kids--to save lawsuits.
corporations do not care about tragedies... unless it affects their bottom line. they do not have souls, and are not people. if they did, would they have ratted this kid out to the cops... or called a counselor, or the suicide hotline, or ANYTHING that would have actually helped him, were he actually going to kill himself?
on a side note, saying "i am suicidal over wow" is not enough to call the cops and say you tried to kill yourself. saying "i am about to slash my wrist in 5 minutes," now that is a specific and actionable threat, and would warrant a call for help.
if you notice, the kid hasn't been charged with trying to kill himself... he's been essentially charged with the fallout from blizzard pranking the cops on his behalf.
ALSO: your definition of "police state" is right out of 1984. it's much more open now, if just as oppressive.
