Jan 18th 2009 4:30PM This is definitely one of the better articles I've read here. You've made some excellent points about lore and about how Blizzard is forced to deal with the storyline of Warcraft.
One rebuttal to your point, however, is Blizzard's quote unquote abandonment of some lore.
Varian Wrynn's kidnap, imprisonment, and enslavement are all things that were promised quests that were never delivered; all of the crap about the Ashbringer involving Dire Maul and Outland; etc.
Blizzard has abandoned some lore and forgotten about others, but I like to think they do so for a reason.
Jan 9th 2009 9:09PM I am utterly disgusted by the tone and attitude of this article.
I am a Christian and I do not find WoW offensive in any way. I find the claims of the organization that ranked the 'offensiveness' of WoW to be rather fair and even-handed. They are simply commenting on the contents of the game. I do not find them offensive, and obviously the author, Adam Holisky, does not. I do, however, find Adam's attitude to be childish and bitter. This also leads to the article being poorly written and unamusing.
Adam, if you wish to refute the claims of the game's offensiveness, or even to belittle them, you would do quite well to craft a decent piece of writing in the future. All you've done with this piece is make yourself look like a child with a chip on his shoulder and damage the reputation of this website.
Dec 10th 2008 7:05PM I agree with everything you said. Enginerring tinkering on items is almost completely useless, and enchants are better in almost every situation. In any of my paladin's specs I'd rather have an enchant than an engineering tinker effect.
As an engineer I can't make anything good for anyone else (gnomish army knives are the one exception), and most of it isn't good for me either.
Blizzard acted like motorcycles would be the solution, but they are immensely expensive to make (Over 12,000 gold). Anyone who can afford to buy one from me is likely to be in a top end raiding guild and already has a "guild engineer" who will do it for free. I have no means of making cash, basically. No engineering research, no dailies, no new "warp" trinkets (and the portals didn't make it live!) and no useful items - Blizzard must just hate engineers.
I agree with the first post, JC needs work, yes. But it's not alone.
Dec 10th 2008 5:24PM I agree that JC's have it bad, but it could be worse. You could be engineers, and have almost nothing of value to create. All we have are our goggles, some of which are replaceable in Naxx-10. And engineering is utterly useless for certain specs. Look at holy paladins - no healing goggles at all were created. Add in that its much more expensive to level engineering than JC, and that you can make a ton of gold if you learn some of the useful crats, and I think our position is much worse than yours.
Dec 2nd 2008 11:24AM I won't say "always" blame anyone. But even a good tank can die with a crummy healer. I ran Heroic Strat yesterday and we had about five wipes from me "taking too much damage to heal through". As a tank, I'm uncrittable and have 23k health unbuffed. That should be enough for Strat. When our healer DC'd the shadow priest dropped Shadow Form and healed me for a few pulls. I had no health problems at all. We wiped a bunch, and it was the healer's fault. It's never "always" someone's fault.
That's something I'd suggest to new players. Never indiscriminately blame one member of your class. Consider each situation uniquely.
Also, more advice!
Hunters and warlocks, (And any other class with pets!): When in instances, take them off aggressive! I had more wipes in instances from a hunter not controlling his pet than anything else, and for a long time I thought the class was just terrible before I realized I had encountered some bad players. Careful management of pets is CRUCIAL in instances.
Dec 1st 2008 6:11PM I would recommend a few things.
- Hotkey the ability to mark targets (skull, star, X, etc.) so it can be done quickly.
- Don't fear unless the area is completely clear of enemies (like Violet Hold, for example). Fearing in instances can cause wipes super fast.
- Use /readycheck ! Nothing is more annoying than wiping on a boss because someone wasn't ready or was switching gear or adding something to their hotbar and the boss was pulled before they could get in position.
Those are just the ones that came to mind quickly.
Oct 9th 2008 11:37AM That tabard is hot.
Get it? Hot?
Oct 2nd 2008 5:38PM I have a question:
Are there any quests that lead you to Northrend? I mean something like when you finish Elwynn Forest and receive a quest directs you to Westfall. Will there be a questgiver in a major city to point us to Northrend come Wrath?
Aug 28th 2008 8:51PM That is a very awesome-looking tabard. I must have it. =D
