Death Knight creation bug solution {WoW}

Nov 12th 2008 6:45PM I thought the same thing, when did that get changed?? I planned on joining a friend on another server with a DK toon so that I didn't have to spend hours and hours in the lowbie areas... damn.

Does anyone have any clue as to when they might eb implementing this? or is it more of a "we don't want you idiots breaking our new areas" kind of thing?

Happy Wrathing,

Ret

[UPDATED] Paladin changes in patch 3.0.3 {WoW}

Nov 4th 2008 3:06PM Actually Zach, it was promised in that wonderful little announcement post by GC where he talked about nerfing all of the other seals.

If they're gonna nerf, at least they should give the "compensation" at the same time.

Blizz- Stop clubbing my seals!

Wrath of the Lich King beta quietly ends {WoW}

Nov 4th 2008 12:04PM As a former Activision employee:

They have made some serious mistakes in the past and for some reason choose to employ producers who, are more interested in getting a bonus for releasing a product early rather than actually listening to their production team or QA testers. (I'm looking at YOU Graham Fuchs.) A majority of the employees who actually have a say at activision are in fact the QA and production team members. There are still quite a few good people over there who are MMO fans and I only hope they don't change things to suit their personal tastes.

My only regret is that I worked for that snotty little troll-sucker Graham on Jedi Outcast, and he decided to fire me because I wouldn't let the game ship as buggy as it was. Everyone else I worked with at Activision was awesome.

Graham, suck it. Oh and btw, everyone knows that you use the spray-on hair in a can, you're 5' tall, everyone can see it; just shave your damn head and be done with it.

/end rant.

The Light and How to Swing It: Uncle {WoW}

Nov 1st 2008 6:18PM Well Zach, it seems like even you are feeling the disheartening woes that the rest of us have been slogging towards.

I figure it this way:

If ret can be talented to remove the bubble in exchange for near 3.0.2 damage and possibly even lowered heal coefficient (RET ONLY), or maybe we could even have divine shield be talentable through prot (low enough for holy to grab it too) in exchange for a full-strength blessing of kings as a baseline, then maybe we could all get along.

I'd certainly be happy with my Stormherald-swinging Dwarf doing more than 500dps again.

Who knows, I'm in a funk so maybe my idea is ludicrous. What I do know though is that I've watched other players gleefully enjoying themselves and their shiny new toys while we seem to be smacked repeatedly for touching ours.

I know the damage was busted, but why oh why did it make it to live if it was so bad? Its extremely unfair to all paladins to keep nerfing the class to fix the spec.

Hopefully they'll stop clubbing our seals soon.

[UPDATED] Invincible vengeance no more {WoW}

Nov 1st 2008 4:16PM Yes, there has been a large amount of QQ over the 3.0.2 ret builds. And yes, some of the nerfs WERE in response to the outcry from other classes.

Blizz is trying to do right by the class-- alright I can't do it.

No, I don't have the kind of "tooth fairy"/"Santa Claus" faith in Blizz like you Alex.

They mistakenly improved the class to a very high degree and allowed it to go live, they messed up. But rather than "surgically" scaling it down, they seemed to have gotten drunk and rammed a piledriver into the class as a whole.

I tried out the changes on beta, to the scale they had been changed a week ago, things were decent. On live however, the hotfixes seem to outpace the beta changes and every time I logged in I wqas doing less and less damage.

I'm not a hardcore raider, nor am I uber L337 in PvP. I am however someone who has played this class faithfully and has spent alot of time making things work with little to no help from the devs. The "love" that our class got and tested in the beta seemed to be in line with what everyone else was able to do so it really was close to the "3%" or so we were promised.

The problem is that once on live, you have individuals who are not either properly geared to take damage or mitigate crit trying to be "superman", while simultaneously getting face-raped by every paladin within range.

Yes, it's annoying to have someone beat the crap out of you in PvP.

Yes, the damage and even the mana-regen were too high.

Everyone has different aspects built into their class that requires some adjustment. Paladins got adjustments that were already in line with what a majority of us Ret-lovers already knew how to do, burst damage.

Holy and Protection have the benefit of the shield, while Retribution trades the old "sword and board" idea for a two-hander. The idea is that we sacrifice our survivability for increased damage. What has happened is that we sacrificed our survivability for a minor increase in damage while our bretheren who chose survivability are getting hurt in the process.

My Solution:

Let the ret tree exchange their bubble for a permanent increase in DPS. (talented)

Give me back my 3.0.2 damage, but you can take my bubble. I only have about as much armor as a hunter or a shaman since I'm carrying my 2-hander anyway. I lose around 5K armor without my shield. So it has me at about 7200-7500 armor as Ret. I have crappy gear by some of your E-peen standards, but my AP is high and my +crit is as well.

The problem is, that on a lvl 70 target dummy, I was hitting for about 900-1300 dps (with wings) a week ago and now I'm pulling 400-550. Why is this fair?

Why does my damage range on my character pane read 1100-1300 but my strikes only hit for 540-640?

Yes I crit, I crit often with 30% crit rating, but even then the numbers I see now are in the SAME RANGE as the damage on my character pane, 1100-1300.

The changes to the seals hurt the other specs of paladin to a great degree, and the change in AW hurts Prot more than anyone else. I think what honestly happened here is that the class was changed, beta and in-house testers thought the change was fine in the grand scope of things, and it was released here too early for the masses to deal with it.

To sum it all up, yes the DPS was too high, not out-of-scope ZOMFG high; it needed to be scaled, not piledriven so much that prot and holy are limping away too.

I think alot of the outrage is at the frequency and urgency of the hotfixes and that no other class has seen this much nerf-abuse. Everytime they change something, it seems to be targeted on Paladins right now, but this too will change.

We'll survive, and if it gets too bad most of us will abandon our beloved class and either find something else to do, or play another class who doesn't get as much abuse. Either way, Blizz still cashes their checks.

/rasp

[UPDATED] Invincible vengeance no more {WoW}

Nov 1st 2008 12:16PM Why do I bother with the class?

Well, the Paladin is the epitome of the holy disciplined warrior. The valiant knight who dispenses justice with the resolve to stand fast in the face of overwhelming odds. The zealous protector.

When I started in vanilla WoW, I enjoyed the aspect that both healing and protection brought to the game. And even though I heard the "ret is useless" arguments early on, I specced that way off and on because I liked the theme of the spec.

The "Retributionist".

The "Punisher".

He (or she) who carrys the Standard into battle and wreaks holy vengeance upon those who would do commit fell deeds.
