Nov 3rd 2009 11:44AM I hear ya Smiley. (last comment on phil... dont want to hijack discussion) I think the challenge is hiring managers and employers in general. Unless the job requires very specific technical know how, like heavy math, engineering background, I would rather hire a well rounded person as opposed to an individual with a narrower education. I want thinkers that can be creative and can act. I don't want robots.
Nov 3rd 2009 10:25AM I'm sorry you have such a poor opinion about the usefulness of you philosophy degrees. I have a BA in Philosophy/Ehtics. Sure, I'm not a philosopher by trade. I ended up as a consultant and entrepreneur. And I am using all of the core skills I learned while studying philosophy; logic in programming, the Socratic method in breaking down the resistance barriers of clients, and business ethics with employees... And those are just a few. The power of a philosophy degree is that it is a very logic focused degree, akin to a CSc degree, with a heavy dose of liberal study.
Oct 29th 2009 4:17PM I'm surprised druid tanks are forgetting we have Savage Defense. Savage Defense scales with crit rating meaning we still benefit from agility, crit rating, and attack power in our gear. More agi/crit rating = more Savage Defense procs. More attack power = greater amount of mitigation.
Apr 10th 2009 1:31PM I like Blizzard's solution except for the fact that you cannot buy two of your T8.0 pieces. Allowing 25man raiders to buy tier pieces and not 10man raiders is a bit unfair. But I can see why they don't let you buy T8.0. A lot of people will have more than enough Emblems of Valor with which to buy T8.0 pieces by the time 3.1 comes out if they allowed that.
Over all I think they did a fine job balancing 10man raider, 25man raider, programming effort(time and money).
I think a lot of us forget that Blizz is trying to strike a balance within its player community AND as a business. As a business man. I totally get this.
Apr 8th 2009 4:58PM I guess I should have been more clear. My proposal was for Arena only.
With that said, As far as BG, WG, and world PvP go... those are all under the control of the player. If you roll on a PvP server you have agreed to potentially be ganked. While with BGs and WG, players chose to enter those PvP areas so enter at your own risk.
The problems I was trying to solve were 1) how can you make entry into arenas more fair and balanced. and 2) how do you prevent PVE and Arena PVP imba?
Apr 8th 2009 4:14PM If the issue is gear... Then why not have Arena-only gear? This is potentially feasible as there is the BoA gear that scales with character level... Area gear could "scale" to useless levels outside of the arena.
So for fairness, when starting the arena season, all players get a standard green set. As they gain honor and ratings they upgrade to blue and finally epic sets.
This solves the gear problem and it could aid in matching based on a teams total gear level.
Mar 12th 2009 10:51AM You cannot patent an idea. You can only patent inventions, like a specific process, or technology. Anyone can have an idea. So unless the companies that created virtual worlds are using the process Worlds.com patented then there is no case.
Sep 4th 2008 1:47PM How about using gold as the currency to level up weapon skills, faction, and other such skills. By using gold as the currency to purchase these skills you give the player the freedom to "grind" these skills in what ever way they want. Players can grind gold by killing mobs, doing dailies, questing, crafting, etc. In this way the player grinds gold in their preferred fun way and you keep the game diverse.
