I most appreciate Linked Frickin' Auction Houses!
Oct 19th 2010 11:09PM Okay, so I suppose I'd better comment here, because we aren't seeing eye to eye on your Demonology spec...
For right now, and not stepping into level 85 turf, Molten Core is a nice talent and all, but if you break down the proc uptime vs. the speed/damage increase on Incinerate it just isn't quite worth it. The trade-off is very small, and honestly it just means your keeping an eye out for a proc and seeing that much less of the actual game.
You're also seriously underestimating the power of Aura of Forboding, because with all the CC requirements and and currently AoE mass killing that's going on now the fact that you can root and stun stuff in the AoE produced here for 6 seconds out of every 9 seconds means that since the spell is on a 12 second cooldown what you're really looking at here is this:
12 second cooldown, +2 second cast time as soon as it pops up, plus a .5 second travel time means 14.5 seconds between each Hand landing; which then translates into 6 seconds of stun/root out of every 14.5 seconds (i.e. roughly 41% uptime on stun/root). Now the root doesn't help much, but the stun actually helps mitigate tank damage right there; but what's being overlooked is the fact that your taking a major chunk out of any risk that might be associated with the tank loosing aggro on an AoE pack; and you're building said tanks threat by ensuring that the target and nearby targets are all getting that extra threat on the mob by keeping it pinned down.
So, for me personally I dropped Molten Core and Demonic Empowerment (for now) and maxxed out both Improved Health Funnel and Aura of Forboding. Health Funnel seems more useful to me with the improved rate of healing your pet combined with the 30% damage reduction seriously reduces the odds that your pet will go down even in a pinch and your 10% spellpower buff stays up even in tight spots.
Now after we hit level 82 and up we're talking about going back into Molten Core and switching 2 points into Emberstorm in the Destro tree because your talking about a .25 cast time reduction on Incinerate and that's worth the effort, since casting more spells quicker means more procs to lower Metamorphosis' cooldown.
Also another note...
Why are you waiting to Soul Burn/Soulfire something during Decimation? You're completely wasting the point of the Decimation buff, because Molten Core no longer improves the damage on Soul Fire; therefor the only buff is the improved casting time on Soul Fire, and you're turning around and ruining it making it instant cast.
In other words, pointless. If you want to burn up Soul Shards that quick for the hell of it then start your Soul Burn/Soulfire rotations as soon as Improved Shadow bolt is procced on the target for the extra 5% crit.
Oct 13th 2010 9:41PM I have GOT to chime in here...
Bad enough I've had the same demon since Felguards were ever invented, bad enough my other demons raided MC with me back in the day and our first venture into a raid...
Bad ENOUGH that my felgaurd apparently it two-timing me with an Undead Warlock!!one!1! I saw you you dirty b$#$!@* in Eye of the Storm, heck you cleaved me! Do you have any idea how humiliating it is when your own demon under another Warlock's control gets the killing blow on you?
And NOW! NOW!!!...
You get somebody from the temp service to 'fill in' while you're on vacation?!?!? Jha'ruun, olde buddy ole, pal... You wait until the next maintenance... Just you wait... (rubs hands together wickedly)
Aug 30th 2010 3:01PM I'm actually more curious about the video settings that they were using in WoW to record this video. My graphics are set to Ultra and they don't look like that.
Anybody got any ideas?
Aug 10th 2010 12:04AM My experience with old-school Warlocks?
We could never find anybody to play one, so back in basics I rolled one with some other guildies to bring in on Gar in Molten Core. Started sticking with one for a few months into AQ40, then dropped it. But I recall sac'ing my Stuck-Up-U-Buss for the 15% shadow damage bonus and melting faces with DoT and Shadow Bolt spam.
Good times, good times.
After that I didn't pick him back up until like 2 months ago, so he's been down and out for a LONG time.
Jul 17th 2010 3:29PM So am I the only one doing the Soul Fire math here? There are 2 talents that reduce casting time by 2 seconds... That means it's down from 6 seconds to a 2 second cast time, making it quicker and more damaging then Incinerate and Shadow Bolt.
Then we get 15% haste on it after the first one crushes into, say, a raid boss on the opener, so you're looking at 15 seconds worth of 1.7 second cast time on Soul Fire. Now, if you're Demonology then you've also got Decimate during the last third of the bosses health, making it now a 1.2 second cast time for that last 35%. We can also tach on Molten Core procs with 18% damage and 15% crit...
Yea, so um, Impending Doom is cool... But if things stay this way you'll never proc it because you're using Soul Fire spam, because it'll be the hardest hitting nuke in the Warlock's tool shed, well at least the highest DPS spell we can use.
Now even if you loose the Molten Core/Decimation bonuses it still reigns supreme even in Destruction... Again 2 second cast time, and now it'll stack a rolling DoT, a-la Fireball. That might not have the big bang of Molten Core and Decimation procs, but it's basically like having 30% bonus damage all the time, which most certainly equals out.
Then take a look at Backdraft. Okay, so now we just passed Demonology's hording of Soul Fire, because now we're tossing out 2 second SF's, but every time we cast Conflagurate then we get to crank out 1.4 second cast time SF's 3 in a row...
Yea, so to summarize... We expect a lot of changes, and I hope so, because otherwise Cata for Warlocks will see two talent trees saying goodbye to Shadow Bolt and Incinerate use in favor of Soul Fire spam.
Just a quick Demonology recap... No, even Demonology Warlocks still won't use Incinerate even with a Molten Core proc because they are already spamming Soul Fire and and 18% damage and 15% crit is tons better then a hasted Incinerate.
Now don't get me wrong, I like simpler rotations because it goes right along with all the other simplifications they are making to all the classes across the board. What I'm saying it that I don't like two of the three talent trees using one of our three meat-and-potatoes type spells, and since Affliction probably won't be using Incinerate, well, then that's a dead spell in the end.
I mean really, do the napkin math if you must... Even if the proc rate is insane on Impending Doom it's still a DPS loss to try and proc it when you can just ignore that aspect of the talent completely and churn out Soul Fires like you opened the gates to Hades yourself.
Jul 14th 2010 8:01AM Here's the problem with this new 'idea', unless they add a lot of talents... Well, look at some of the more complete classes... When you finish taking your 31 points the whole idea is broken.
Think of it this way, they said they want you to be able to take more fun talents, but by reducing the number of talents all they did was create 'optimal builds' with less points, meaning even less variety among specs.
Hybrid specs? Dead. You got a pair of level 85 tanks of the same class? 99.9% identical specs.
The talent system was good in one respect that it allowed for at least a little more creativity and debate over what builds were good and more theorycrafting. Now that option is out the window in favor of 'over simplifying' talents and gameplay in general regarding both talents and skills... Sadly this was one of the first and best selling points of WoW which seperated it from the rest of the pack.
The concept is just too forced. Sorry. Just go look at wowpopular.com and look at that spread of varying talent builds for each class. Unless they can somehow acheive this with fewer talent points then we're loosing some of the individuality and flavor we've come to love.
Yes, it's POSSIBLE they can fix it, but it looks like they don't want to at all.
Remember, Everquest used to tout how your character was 'custom' but it was only 'custom' because of the gear you wore and the way your toon looked, every other aspect was identicle. Same problem with EQ2 and FF Online, and heck a LOT of the other MMO's. Blizzard set the standard here with talent system back in the day and now they've lost that edge. I, for one, hope they can reclaim it, but again it looks like they don't want that at all and instead want to make your choices more linear not less.
I do hope I'm wrong.
May 25th 2010 10:49PM I think I peed a little.
That was some seriously funny **** right there, all win!
May 20th 2010 2:29PM What's the music score at th part where Shadowmourne starts yammering on about BG's and stuff? Isn't that a score from Transformers 2 or something? Anybody for the name of it?
May 8th 2010 6:11PM I have a pretty simple question here...
As a Shaman I usually play Elemental, and I've basically created a string of macro's that let me spam 1 key. Simple. So, can I do the same with this and let the priority system pick my next spell for me? Is there a way to spam a key and get it done?
Before I get flamed I'd like to add that I have turret's syndrome and brain cancer, and spamming single keys while I try and move around and do other things is just the best I can do to play, so bear that in mind, please. You can trash talk my play style all you want, but try to avoid the personal insults.
There are people like me who would like to enjoy the game without making fools of ourselves and telling the world out problems when we try and PUG an instance or raid.
