Scattered Shots: Hunter spec and class balance {WoW}

Jan 3rd 2011 7:29PM @Microtonal

You must not have been in a competitive guild. Competitive guilds don't need to ask players to switch specs. They just do it because it's what's best for the guild. The best players in world care more about progression than selfishly playing a certain spec because that's what they enjoy. Try apping to a top 500 guild as BM or MM right now and see what they say. And yes guilds do stack classes. I don't mean they bring 10 hunters. I mean if they have all the buffs covered and a couple open dps slots they'll bring whatever is on top. Right now that's SV hunters.

T-Mobile's HSPA+ blankets 85 million Americans in warm '4G' comfort {Engadget}

Jul 21st 2010 12:08PM @madison540

The $10 "tax" isn't just for 4G. It also includes true unlimited data and USB tethering. The 4G service is good enough in my area that I'm contemplating canceling Comcast and using my Evo as the primary internet connection at home. $80 a month for cell service, home broadband and 3G/4G mobile data is an amazing deal, and no other carrier is even close.

Scattered Shots: Stacking cooldowns and procs {WoW}

"But outside of ICC, SV still wipes the floor with MM hands down."

This is absolutely wrong. When someone is wearing best in slot gear, MM is well over 1k dps ahead of SV in any 25 man raid. The ICC buff isn't calculated on the dps spreadsheet. SV might beat MM in a 10 man with certain gear and certain comps, but generally speaking MM is WAY ahead.

As for myself, I usually raid as SV in our 10s for replenishment.

HTC EVO suffering from glass separation issues? {Engadget}

Jun 13th 2010 8:19PM I noticed this problem on my EVO a couple days ago and was debating whether to take it back or not. It isn't very noticeable in daylight, but in a dark room it leaks a lot of light from the bottom left corner. My concern is the glass will continue to separate and get worse over time. Looks like I need to call Sprint and see about getting a new phone.

Scattered Shots: Hunting the Lich King {WoW}

Jun 1st 2010 3:43PM The valks are immune to snares. They can be slowed or stunned, but improved traps will not work as far as I know. Hunters are not good for slowing or stunning valks beyond frost trap and shouldn't be used in that way. Our job is to blow them up. I disengage at an angle away from their flight path so I can immediately begin dpsing. Be careful no to go too early though because sometimes the 3rd valk will wait a second to pick someone up. I've disengaged too early before and was dropped off the platform as a result.

I know someone else mentioned it, but explosive trap does quite a bit of damage to valks in 25 LK and I highly recommend dropping one. In 10 LK it probably isn't worthwhile.

Regarding disengaging back onto the platform, I've come close several times but without a slow fall I don't believe it's possible.

Scattered Shots: Damage meters are awesome {WoW}

May 27th 2010 1:50PM Hunting Party Podcast Episode 21

Frostheim - "I've repeatedly said I'll never use bows."

As for having access, he's killed Deathwhisper 17 times. Whether or not he's passed on Zod's is irrelevant because he won't use it. Do you not see the hypocrisy in writing an article about the importance of DPS while consciously choosing not to min/max? DPS and RP are two very different things.

Scattered Shots: Damage meters are awesome {WoW}

May 27th 2010 12:48PM It's sad that people defend him. He has specifically said he refuses to use a bow. He has access to Zod's, which is an upgrade, but he won't use it.

Scattered Shots: Damage meters are awesome {WoW}

May 27th 2010 11:44AM "And that's why we care about our DPS."

It amuses me that you preach about DPS while using a tank gun because you're too vain to use a bow.

Scattered Shots: Hunter gems {WoW}

May 7th 2010 1:03PM @Psyhche

I looked at your log for Marrowgar this week and I see a couple major things that are killing your dps. First you're moving way too much. You're only getting off an auto every 2.7 seconds. In my log this week I got one off every 2.4 seconds. That represents more than 200 dps just in auto shots. You're also letting serpent sting fall off for some reason. You only had 80% up time. You should have basically 100% up time. This appears at least partially related to the last problem which is you aren't using shots when they're available. You're shooting Chimera every 14 seconds, Aimed every 19 seconds and Arcane every 12 seconds. I can't overstate how much of a massive dps loss it is to not use those shots when they're off CD. Maximizing dps is about maximizing the number of globals you get in a fight. You have the gear to do over 10k dps on that fight but you need to limit movement and fix your rotation to get there.

Scattered Shots: Hunter gems {WoW}

May 6th 2010 5:56PM Out of curiosity I plugged you into femaledwarf and by removing arcane and putting points into improved steady, you gain 200dps with 25 man buffs. It's not all about how much damage Arcane does. Removing Arcane means more improved steady procs. It also means those procs are used on higher damage shots (Chimera and Aimed) rather than wasted on the lower damage Arcane.

You're also hampering yourself by not using 2 pieces of T9. Replacing your helm and and gloves with even 232 T9 pieces yields another 135dps (after moving a couple talent points to reach the hit cap). Higher ilevel doesn't always mean more dps. And finally, an extra 450 health shouldn't be the difference between a wipe and a kill. Replacing your purple gems with 20agi gems and a nightmare tear yields another 30dps.

I spent 5 minutes on the spreadsheet and found amost 400dps just by swapping in 2 easily acquired pieces of gear (which you probably already have), replacing a few gems and respeccing.
