Dec 23rd 2010 9:23AM Dunno, really. Nothing in the system screams "PuG" to me. It just "screams" that you're able to decide between 10 and 25 depending of your guild. Although maybe that's just my decision I did ages ago to not pug any max-level raid. Ever.
Granted, adjustable raid sizes, so that raids scaled based on how many people you have in your raid would be great, but balancing that would be nigh-on-impossible. I would imagine it's plenty hard already to keep 10 and 25 from being too different.
OT: Updated player models to the level of goblin & worgen. And hair colouring for tauren *grin*
Dec 4th 2010 11:45AM Among other cool gear to look at(mainly robes), I collect tier sets(I am a druid, so most of them look pretty good). Barring tier 3(which was impossible to get before my current main was created), I have almost all full tiers. Missing one idol short of full AQ40 set, two pieces of tier 2, and one piece of tier 1(been soloing Golemagg once a week for bit over a year, and the chestpiece just doesn't apparently exist) & belt off tier 6.
I have full Feralheart(was my first set to complete), AQ20(Symbols of Unending Life), Dragonhide Battlegear, Malorne Armor, Nordrassil Armor, Valorous Dreamwalker, Conqueror's Nightsong, Runetotem's Garb and of course the Lasherweave. Each with a fitting weapon & cloak. Meaning, I also save most weapons & cloaks. I also use exlusively staves, you will not catch this healer with mainhand/offhand pair even if it would slightly gimp me raidwise.
Yea, I'm a bit of a completionist. And I like trying to solo/duo old raid content. I also like to make people ask just where I get the gear :D
Most of my bank space goes to exactly this stuff. I mean, I have bank alt for a reason, everything not soulbound can be mailed off elsewhere.
Nov 8th 2010 5:10AM Call it a hunch, but people who have always stood in the fire... will continue to do so, even if the fire comes to same places every attempt and has the places marked with these. :D
Although these are certainly a good thing for those whose performance might actually improve with something this big and obvious pointing where to go ;)
Oct 27th 2010 9:21AM Twice.
During BC(when I started, late '07), my main was a warrior, first arms, then prot for dungeons and raiding. I found I really loved tanking more than doing dps. In the months before Wrath, I rolled a shaman to see what healing would be like. Fast forward to the boredom of the Naxx era, and I had my shaman in nearly same level of gear as my warrior. Come Ulduar patch, I changed said shaman to my main because we were overloaded on tanks but short on healers - and because I really enjoyed healing more at that point.
During the time when Ulduar really started to get on nerves simply because it was the only instance for a fairly long time(didn't help that I was on summer vacation and thus had a lot of time to waste), I started leveling a druid. Once I reached 40, dropped the money for dual spec... I was sold. Being able to do both tanking and healing, on a shapeshifter none the less(anyone who knows me also knows I'm an avid lover of all things transformation-ific). Even more so when I hit Outland and got to see the wonders of flight form.
It's been nearly a year since I changed that druid to my main. Since I changed from healer to another, it wasn't a big jump, especially considering the flood of shammies we seemed to have at the time and the advent of Dungeon Finder which was a speed ticket to good gear.
Since then, I have gotten Loremaster, the Exalted, Raven Lord and Bloodbathed Frostbrood Vanquisher among other things on her, and most certainly will not change again.
Oct 18th 2010 4:33PM Ditto to the above. I have DBM - however, I haven't updated it since maybe when Professor Putricide was the latest content - six months or so. I also get away with it because, well, I'm our guild's resident "stay out of the effin' FIRE!" - I know where the "stupid" people are standing in is and don't stand in it. (And, well, I play a healer...)
I've also noticed that those that don't sport the boss mods(by choice)... tend to be better at avoiding the "stupid aoe of the week" than those that have. Unless, of course, you are the kind of player who stands in them because he would actually need an addon that loudly reminds you if you're doing something stupid. Seen those too.
So I guess it's either you need the addon - or you don't. Making it a requirement is silly - but requiring it's use from those that obviously need a fair bit of hints is sensible. And I mean boss mods by this: pre 4.0.1 pallypower was pretty needed in for our paladins, no questions asked.
Although, we haven't had anyone who has explicitly declined from getting DBM - I'm just too lazy to bother updating something I don't really need. ;)
Oct 11th 2010 5:32AM Hmm, interesting topic.
I play a druid as main, and I am an avid lover of things shapeshiftery, and as someone else said, the feeling of feral druid doing the the carnage she can best do... beautiful.
I am also relatively spiritual(not religious, per say, just spiritual) person... I used to play a resto shaman as my main.
I also love those pumped-up moments in music/movies where someone is *really* ticked off and wants to pummel someone's face in... my first main was a prot warrior.
I have been described as a "creative nutcase" more than a few times. I am often doing whatever I feel like doing, even if "I could spend my time better" according to other people. It takes more than a few random conflicting opinions to derail my train of thought; stubborn is me.
Oct 10th 2010 7:01AM I will start both but mostly just to play the starting zones through. Being primalily a Horde player, the longest I've played ally chars are up to 25 or so, just seeing through the starting areas for them. I will repeat the same with Worgen.
...although, with the inevitable crowd on both starter areas when Cat hits, I will wait a while before rolling either, and be playing a blown-up world with my fresh tauren Priest instead. ;)
Oct 9th 2010 5:26PM Aye, same for me; while as healer/tank druid I could get my group within a matter of seconds, I don't want to. Questing is apparently rather interesting in Cata, and random quest mobs wont blame me for something I did not do.
If I do instances, it will be in guild group, natch.
@OP: You could at to the point of queues being longer that good part of the reason will be: all tanks and healers with a good guild and half a brain will be sticking to their guild groups.
Oct 9th 2010 6:37AM @Arbolamante: Ditto on that. One more reason to loathe healing that fight; although by this point my game is pretty much on mute and music is loud enough to drown everything but what little I need to hear on Vent.
@OP: It was an interesting fight to heal(both normal and heroic) for a start. But the "juggling of everything plus three fiery torches and a chainsaw" gets really tiresome when it's the umpteenth time on heroic...
Oct 7th 2010 3:45PM Hmm. Seeing as this weekend is the sort of weekend, what will I do?
...eh, try to fish a BWL or SSC pug so I could finish my tier 2 and 5, respectively. Well, Sunwell too, but I have all visible pieces of tier 6 already(belt and boots missing, and I'm tauren druid). Aside from that... probably not much. Maybe mine stuff with my DK alt if I can be bothered to. More likely, play DotA, waiting for 4.0.1 to drop ;P
Hopefully get All You Can Eat 10man from Sindra to finish my drake.
