Arcane Brilliance: I still don't like spirit {WoW}

Mar 23rd 2009 1:28PM Christian Belt has revealed over and over that he doesn't understand his own class at all. He claims he "still doesn't like spirit" and mages "don't really use spirit" but what he fails to realize is that the mage is the class that technically benefits from spirit more than any class in the game.

On the live server right now, any mage who has glyphed mage armor and the arcane or fire regen talent can regenerate 80% MP5 *while casting*. As of 3.1 it will be bumped up to 100%. Saying that spirit is a useless stat when you know for a fact that priests and druids would KILL for that kind of regeneration when healing (or DPSing, shadow and boomkin) extended fights.

Sure we have evocation and we can conjure gems that can be used 3 times during battle, but those are time-consuming and any time spent not casting is technically a DPS loss. Try being an arcane mage without spirit and you'll find that OOM comes quicker than you imagined. How many mages (any spec) out there go OOM and have to evocate during Patchwerk? I never have, not once.

People, including Christian, keep saying you "shouldn't stack spirit instead of the other, more important stats." What a stupid statement. Spirit is a primary stat, and the only thing that you could possibly sacrifice is either intellect or stamina. The only things that you can choose over crit is hit or haste, and occasionally MP5.

If spirit was indeed a "useless stat" for mages, the Tier pieces would never have it and there wouldn't be 3 talents in the trees that buff how powerful it is for them. Period.

Please stop trolling, Christian, and L2Play.

Arcane Brilliance: Statistically speaking {WoW}

Feb 23rd 2009 2:04AM Sadness on the html removal. My (greater than)/sarcasm(less than) didn't show up around "healer gear" so now it doesn't make as much sense. Oh well.

[sarcasm]healer gear[/sarcasm]

There. I feel better.

Arcane Brilliance: Statistically speaking {WoW}

Feb 23rd 2009 1:59AM What pongo said. With the arcane talents and mage armor glyph (and using mage armor, duh), while-casting regen sits at a pretty 80%. If you took any sort of math class you'd figure out that 80% of nothing is still nothing, which is why most people think that spirit sucks. Get some healer gear with some spirit on it, and you'll quickly see that nothing suffers, and you only benefit from having increased regeneration rates. If anything, the only stat that suffers is either your intellect or your stamina, but last time I checked, no squishy ever died from missing a couple hundred health.

My mage has 799 stamina, 1064 intellect, and 714 spirit, and my regen while casting sits at an amazing 528MP5. More than any healer class (yes, even druids). Raid buffed it gets even more impressive, and sometimes, just for the heck of it, I'll spam Arcane Blast (x3 debuffed) just for kicks and giggles. Oh, and in case you're wondering if my DPS suffers because of my "spirit stacking" I'll tell you this: I do between 2600 and 3400 in various raids (depending on composition, 10/25) and I've recently passed up the hardcore FFB mage in our guild with better gear than I.

Evocation? What's that?
