May 1st 2009 5:11AM OpenOffice doesn't have problems. It flat out doesn't work. The macros that the hunter spreadsheet uses are not supported by it, you can use it to open other peoples files and look at their setup but if you change anything it breaks.
May 1st 2009 5:05AM Without sounding too harsh, I've allways got the impression that the hunter blogger (this one and the last one) was one of those hunter's who reads the Elitest Jerk DPS thread and has downloaded the spreadsheet but doesn't really understand what all the numbers actually mean.
For example the whole raptor vs cat debate that sprung up because of the spreadsheet, it's this kind of person that would swear blind that the raptor was definatly the best DPS all the time which it just wasn't. The spreadsheet made it look that way because it made the unreasonable assumption that you would allways cast Kill Command at the exact same time as Savage Rend (both 60 second CDs) and therefore have a much higher crit chance on Savage Rend due to Focused Fire and so the damage buff would proc more often.
Of course for the majority of people this wasn't the case. If they weren't specced into Focused Fire because they needed that point to Focused Aim to hit cap, if they weren't hit capped, if they didn't maticulously monitor the CDs of Kill Command/Savage Rend then Cats were still better DPS.
And it's just this kind of mistake that the author keeps making. If you check last weeks Ulduar ranged weapon round up you'll see that the numbers don't really add up there either.
Apr 24th 2009 4:19AM I seriously doubt that those are only 2 ranged weapons to be had in Ulduar. Especially when the two that have been found so far are so clearly just meant to give the hunter a choice of gun or bow and that use skins that have been reused 2 or 3 times elsewhere.
Also take into account how early in Ulduar they drop (4th and 5th boss for most guilds) and then look at where the previous examples of "Best in slot" ranged weapons have dropped
T7 - Kelthuzad
T6.5 - Kil'Jaedan
T6 - Illidan
T5 - Lady Vashj
T4 - Prince
Theres a pretty obvious pattern there. It has always dropped from the final boss of the main instance. I'd put money on there being a, yet to be discovered, ranged weapon dropping from either Yogg or Alagon and I'd even go so far as to say it will be a crossbow.
Apr 23rd 2009 6:29PM Does no one else find this incredably irratating?
I mean personally I'm useing BM and Survival as my two specs and I have a BM and Survival pet for each as I'm sure is the norm. Having the pet drop all its talents every time I switch is just annoying.
Apr 16th 2009 10:18PM I was thinking the opposite to be honest. Leave the lore and the RP to the boring bloggers that no one ever reads....as someone else said, why are you writing about lore on a week that was so eventful for hunters?
Apr 14th 2009 2:43PM Theres a shocker. Blizzard announce new UI upgrade that would basically make Outfitter pointless and the creator then decides to protest the addon policy by pulling a defunkt addon. Then Blizzard announce that, in fact their version of outfitter isn't going to be ready and Outfitter suddenly goes back into production.
It's like that guys walked out in front of the tanks in Tiananmen Square, noticed they werent going to stop and then walking off saying "actually I'm fine with communism"
Apr 14th 2009 9:48AM You forgot to put swimming mounts on the pole.
Apr 13th 2009 9:46PM I quite enjoy the whole Controller thing as well from other MMOs. WoW seems to have totally ignored the idea, largely I think because it would either be hugely underpowered in PvP or just insanely annoying to fight against.
But it is definatly a fourth role that should be explored, The idea for anyone whos not come across it before is a class that doesn't heal, DPS or tank. Instead it is entirely focused on reducing damage dealt, buffing damage done and CCing. Typical abilities would be things like spells that make mobs miss, AOE shields, knock backs, movement buffs etc.
I remember one MMO where the controller class could do things like cast a spell at the party that would then make everyone it buffed fire a fireball at their target and they could also teleport other people. So like if someone was standing in a volcano they could pick them up and put them somewhere else. It was really quite fun.
Apr 9th 2009 5:37AM Yeah, it's definatly not Blizzard invented. In fact Ultima Online, released in 1997, had phasing in all but name. When you died you went to the spectral plane (which Blizz then stole) and there were two versions of the world, that you could reach through portals. One lawless, anything goes PvP version where you could kill and then loot all the items off of other players and another that was entirely PvE based.
There are a whole bunch of others who have effectivly the same thing but thats the earliest example I can think of.
Apr 9th 2009 5:18AM Got to agree, that's a terrible idea. Underwater quests/content are currently the worst bits in the game, why would you want to spend hours in such a pain in the arse enviroment.
