Feb 13th 2009 4:03PM Hey, jackass, I've BEEN "working" to get this. I've logged in 20/24 hours every day since it started. I've yet to see ONE bag, let alone the 3-5 I statistically need to finish it.
It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with effort. If it did, then there wouldn't be a problem.
Chocolates: Soulbound but you get them turning in the very easily farmed gift packages.
Rockets, Love Fools, flower petals, and of course the stuff for the gift packages are not soulbound, AND they can be a guaranteed reward for the gift packages.
So get off your high and mighty horse because if you already have your achievement I will have put more effort into it than you because I'm STILL working on it. And its possible I won't even get it.
Only other achievement I don't have from this event is the pet and its not required.

Feb 7th 2009 2:24AM They should have fixed the rewards requirements to account for the skewed distribution to the lower rankings BEFORE they put this system in place.
There's no incentive to play because you can't excel if you don't have the gear and you can't get the gear if you don't excel.
Feb 4th 2009 4:11PM First, the chess thing...Chess only relies on the player's skill, whereas arenas, pvp and even success in PVE relies a GREAT deal on gear. Sure, phenominal amounts of skill can make up for a gear disparity, but this is the exception rather than the rule. Where arenas really fail is that people that are good get tools to get better, and people that aren't as good don't get those tools.
In this season there aren't even alternative paths to get competitive gear thanks to PVE gear not being as effective for PVP and the new arena requirements on all but entry level pvp gear. This is a trend that is only going to get worse as new seasons come out. (Yes, I'm aware that Archavon has pvp gear drops. For the last 6 weeks all I've ever seen is the mage chest. Not a lot of good for non-mages)
So, what happens when people come in to an arena for the first few times and get slaughtered, often by the same team for two hours? They stop playing. Going 0-20 isn't fun whether its your fault or someone elses. This is a feedback cycle because there's less people now playing at the entry level bracket, so you get matched up with progressively higher ranked players until entry level teams simply can not win. At that point people say "well, why bother?" especially when its just going to get worse as new seasons come.
Rather than screwing around with all these formulas and ratings, they should be addressing the fact that gear makes such a huge difference relative to skill and therefore skews the match-making. I did like that one person's suggestion that they do a tournament style instead of this dumb passive ranking style.
Feb 3rd 2009 10:09AM Keep in mind part of the problem isn't your computer OR blizzard's server. A lot of it has to do with how much "internet" is between your connection and the game server.
For instance, I'm very fortunate to live in the same city (Boston) as my battlegroup's data center. The frogger gauntlet gives me no problems, but its a west-coast time zone server and we have lots of people from California in my guild. We usually have to wait a few minutes while these people get rezed up.
The interesting thing is its essentially a demonstration of the principles of relativity. Even if I say in vent "Hey, you're closer than you think to that slime!" it will take the same-ish amount of time for my message to get there as it will for the data packet to get there and update their position on the screen. It is litterally impossible to communicate with them faster than they get the information from the game.
The point is there's a bunch of hops between your client and the server and this is what is causing a lot of the latency. Its also something that no one can really fix. Electrons only travels so fast through wires.

which defeats the whole purpose of having a "secure" launcher. The point is it is a MAJOR security flaw that hasn't been addressed apparently.
Jan 27th 2009 9:35AM Any chance we'll see a fix to the launcher that is causing it to make a copy of itself in a temp folder, then execute that copy, forcing software firewalls to treat the game as a suspicious application?
Its so damned annoying having to approve the game's internet connection EVERY SINGLE TIME I RUN IT.

I would say that the thing that makes the 10-man harder to get this achievement from is that it can only be done, as the tooltip linked in this very sentence suggests, in heroic mode.
Dec 16th 2008 3:35PM If only PVP wasn't so dreadfully unpleasant until you have pvp gear, it might be easier to enjoy pvp enough to earn the pvp gear.
I have enough stress and challenges in my real life without spending the evening having my corpse "facehumped" by a bored twelve year old in full Deadly.
When wearing full raid gear is the same protection as wearing a paper sack, I'll find my entertainment elsewhere.
