Aug 7th 2010 12:40PM I quit wow, just before LFG started (literally 1 day before ICC was released). In raids and instances I've done every role possible.
Just the other day, while leveling another toon to 80, I ran into the tank pulling everything scenario just as I zoned in. At first I thought, "OMG what a tool!" As we got a new tank, and I see the healer and dps open up on the tank before he/she had done anything, I began to wonder. Their opening lines were, "You'd better not suck." After the 1st pull, the dps of the 2 wouldn't control his aggro and pulled. He died, then went off on the tank. The tank said enough of this BS and left.
The next tank to come in was after 20 minutes and a bear tank that apparently they had before. The tank admitted he was learning. They told him to quit, they weren't "going to carry his X$# through". The other dps and were saying, "give it a shot, we don't want to have to wait around for another tank." They refused. So the tank teleported out but would not quit group. They had kicked so many people that the cd was still not up yet. At that point, I quit. The other dps was on my server and whispered me she was going to have her pet aggro and run out of the instance to wipe them.
Bad behavior all the way around. That said, I don't put up with that kind of behavior in any role. "Tank Entitlement" afflicted comment, especially when I'm tanking. ;)

Aug 25th 2009 1:04PM The problem is, Blizzard doesn't and can't engineer for the kinds of problems that many guilds face.
It's not uncommon to hear horror tales of GM's being loot whores, nepotistic, or guilds being torn up over some drama because some prima dona member didn't get their way or perceived favoritism.
I was in a guild that was the top 10 man on the server and had hit the top 7 when we transitioned to 25's. Nothing record breaking but certainly would have gotten some of these rewards. The GM showed up drunk one night and a couple of the more self centered officers worked on him how they were tired of trying to gear folks for the upcoming ulduar release (still 2 months out) when we had a solid core to tear up 10 man. They convinced him to disband the guild (one he hadn't created or contributed to the GV). Without discussion with the rest of our officers, he disbanded it, got all the loot in the 6 full tabs of the GV, while his buddies laughed the whole time.
The 32 other people in the guild had been actively contributing, many as much or more than any of those 3, and had no say in the destruction. Blizzard can't really engineer effective means to address that, but these kinds of perks will make it so more people will risk it.
Aug 25th 2009 12:52PM I don't know that you can say non-raiding guilds are penalized. It's a glass half full/half empty thing. Raiding guilds are getting a perk from their raiding, rather than non-raiding guilds getting a "guild debuff" for not. That said, most people will look at it that way.
To your other issue, I strongly suspect that Blizzard would look at accounts rather than characters in a guild. Even that limitation will get a huge outcry as guilds start culling their ranks and the whole friends and family concept goes away for many raiding guilds.
In the end, Blizzard can say what they will about the changes, it will be the rabid complaints of those imagining that they are punished by the changes that will ultimately determine how this works.
Just think of those poor PvP'ers? Where is the love for them there? So many changes in the game mechanics were built, changed, or trashed because of their tears.
Aug 24th 2009 2:19PM Too many petty personalities, anonymity with the internet, nepotism, and many other personality defects will hit harder with the proposed rewards. Although in small guilds with strong leadership and mature players this will be a godsend, for most guilds it will amp up the drama and destroy many.
May 22nd 2009 5:56AM It seems the map may have been removed. I tried the link and it pulls up a collection of previous columns now.
May 18th 2009 12:43PM He's talking about Pug's. Frequently, both roles are being filled by folks who think they can do it but don't know what it entails.
Emalon is a more basic example, but I was in a failed pug as a healer. The MT was capable and I'd raid with him/her any day. The raid leader was OT, and said he/she knew the fight and had done it before. He/she left out that they'd dps'ed it and it wasn't until he got defensive said "I'm DEF capped!" as a response to when folks asked why he was so squishy, that it was clear he "had tank gear" but wasn't a tank. We had a strong paly healer and disc priest focused on him, who were successful in Ulduar, struggling to keep up even with my Hots.
This is common to a lot of the pugs I've seen. Failed dps is survivable in a pug. Failed tanks or heals will kill you, not the boss
May 18th 2009 1:39AM Affecting unworn gear blows, but I can't say I see dual spec as the issue. Hybrid classes have had this issue for a long time. Ferel druids usually had both a bear and kitty set, many had a heal set on top of it.
May 18th 2009 1:26AM Arguments like that show your own lack of understanding of the game mechanics and can end up with some DPS shouting how they topped the dps meters, ignoring the fact the pulled off the tank, healers had to scramble to keep them up (causing potential tank heal or mana issues), or stayed dead for half the fight. I can pull 16k dps on an aoe pull with my lock, that said, few tanks can hold against that kind of aggro. When they break loose, kill me, then run through the raid, the wipe it would cause is my fault. Looking only at the meters, I am a stellar performer. Looking at the results, I would be just another failed dps.
Meters are one tool and those that bases decisions off of only one tool does not understand the game.
The same is true of my healer. I have resto druid that is specced for raid heals. His numbers look great, but other classes/specs do better at MT healing. Basing it off just the numbers and I would be the obvious candidate for MT heals on a tough boss fight.
