Now, as long as you keep up the MT you do your job fine, and any overhealing is extra. A safety if you will. So long as you keep your mana and target up, overhealing's pretty irrelevant.
Obviously a class with direct heals only will have most overhealing etc. A priest with smartheal CoH wouldnt.

Oct 7th 2008 8:48AM Allright I don't usually post comments, and I didn't read ALL of them. But I'll just throw my opinion in here.
I've seen people mention meleeing the boss. That might work on attumen the horseman, but I'm a sunwell raider myself and in SWP there is no encounter which allows you to melee a boss.
I'll take the example of Brutallus. Basically what a holydin does on Brutallus atm is spam a downranked HL on whatever tank's tanking him. (my guild swaps tank every 3 meteor slashes, dno how other do it)
If I have to stop healing every 30 sec to judge, the tank is at risk. Why? because Brutallus can main hand hit for 8k damage. I can't afford to get my healing cut down by a divine plea, and if I can't downrank or chainpot I fear I'll have serious mana issues.
Many encounters are already pretty mana intense as it is. A paladin without a Spriest on Brutallus is basically not done. I'm using mana oils, restoration flasks and Zangarian sporefish to max out my regen and it's still very hard.
Same goes for Kalecgos, you get out of the demon zone and you need to start spamming the MT right away, you're not going to melee him or whatnot.
And from a PvP point of view, against many setups (like lock priest) all a paladin can do is cast holy shock and cleanse. I am happy with the less shock CD and the cleanse talent. But I don't think Beacon of Light is going to be viable considering its high mana cost and only situational use.
