Blizzard strikes gold sellers with Paypal notices {WoW}

Jan 28th 2011 4:25PM I honestly don't see this doing anything. Paypal is merely a convienience for them. There are other sites they can turn to like moneybookers and even if they assault every potetial payment site, the gold sellers could simply put up there own https site. The fact of the matter is it is purely a civil matter and if Blizz were to slap everyone of them with a lawsuit given most of there origins are oversees, it would be pointless. Really the only way Blizz could shut them down is by removing the demand by seeling items and or currency themselves which is a very unpopular principle. For those suggesting getting everyone an authenticator, the gold sellers would just get authenticators too. There will always be folks that want to take the easy way out. It has existed since the dawn of video games with concepts like God Mode, or Cheats in games.

On a purely philisophical/legal note I think Blizz is on shaky ground here. How can one claim Intellectual Property rights for a system of currency? Its like they are saying it was their idea to exchange goods for a currency with a set value. That has kind of existed since the beginning of history. Its their house they set the rules but if they invite us over to play baseball and we break their window, I don't think they are going to be able to hold us fiscally responsible. If i was a judge i would say stop using the courts and either suck it up and accept that if you have a system of currency people WILL abuse it and you kick the offenders out. The other option is change your system to not allow for it. I am not sure how they would do it, but honestly i don't see the gold farming houses oversees ever coughing up anything to Blizzard even if they Blizz was succesful. And I guarentee after the lawsuit was won, other farmers would just crop up.

I theorize that gold buying is much more prevalent than anyone knows except maybe Blizzard. So much in fact they are trying to impotently go after the sellers because the number is so large that the amount of subscriptions they would lose would be significant enough to pursue another avenue. The other circumstantial evedence i woud like to cite is how much hacking has become more prevalent, to the extent they have atomated the account retrieval system. I wouldn't be surprised if this isnt just a ploy to convince subscribers that do care about gold buying and selling that "hey we are doing something." While allowing gold sellers and gold buyers to continue to make up the significant subscription base that I believe they make. Remember for every botted user there is an account attached to it meaning its a paying subscription. Any thoughts?

Nov 22nd 2010 7:58PM OK post just updated with Blue Post.

Apr 29th 2010 9:35AM I think Blizzard will probably do 6 items in 25 because of a fear of qq, however it wouldnt be necessary to make 25 man attractive. Lets pretend its Cata and I like many of us have read loot tables and have pinpointed exactly what i need from each boss. Now lets pretend that 10 mans drop 2 pieces and 25 mans drop 4 and for the sake of argument I only want 1 piece from each boss. Now lets say that each boss has 10 items that may drop. Now 10 man gives me a 20% chance to get my item with less competition if it drops. 25 mans would have a 40% chance to drop my item with more competition. So I would chose 25 man to improve my chances to get to roll on the item, because the amount of competition and ratio of loot to raid members is irrelevant if the gear you want doesn't drop. Just wanted to throw that ou there.

Varian Wrynn hates the Horde {WoW}

Nov 26th 2008 11:44AM Thrall lets it go because he has to believe that redemption exists. otherwise the Orcs have no way for atoning for what they did. The Alliance is about to understand this if Varian is left unchecked. As far as for dailies that involve killing Alliance NPC's, they are at war and war results in these situation. The Alliance is not innocent. They fight because they believe that Azeroth is theirs and its resources are to be used at their discretion. They fell the Orcs (Horde) should have no access to them. That is why the alliance fights because they feel the are the only ones that should reap the resources of Azeroth. The Horde is trying to do the same thing but they do it to survive and advance themselves and make no claims otherwise.
