Mar 28th 2011 7:43PM The post here left out the RIFT factor, and I'm left wondering 'why'. My faction/server, at least, is on its way towards a slow death and is literally littered with 2-3 player guilds. I do realize that Scott's guidance always excludes guilded players, but I wonder at what point this changes? How low can the pop get until you'll 'chat up' that guilded player in the dead guild? Or is it still 'never'? Could've been a good add to the article...

Relative difficulty is irrelevant. It's still 'harder' than LK. The end.
Mar 26th 2011 9:55AM Working on learning/teaching that fight at present, I very much object to the depiction of 'relatively simple'. In some ways, that fight is actually harder than LK:
1) When all three healers get slimes.
2) When the 'stand in the circle' boss is adjacent to the 'spread out' boss.
3) Slime on a tank
The synergy between the two bosses up that are up is just plain evil in certain combinations. With LK the fight always, always, always goes the same way. The phases are clear with complex but unchanging instructions for everyone in the raid. Never once did he start dropping defiles in Phase 1, or go back to diseases during Phase 3. Omnotron does.
It's a Cata thing, and I get that, but that fight needs some cleanup. The could AT A MINIMUM set the order of the bosses on normal mode to something fixed, preferably with the two nastiest never up at the same time.
Until they do, we'll just grind Valor until we outgear it. But it sucks.
Mar 18th 2011 8:20PM @Wolfshanze - If you're unclear about the difference between 280 and 420, then please loan me gold. I'll do the interest calculations...
Mar 18th 2011 5:32AM After 70+ comments I'm honestly shocked that not even ONE person thought of the negative impact this will have on people simply seeking JP's. E.g. I just leveled a Paladin to 85 and need to get him geared. Now, in order to get bonus Justice, I'll have to run EIGHT dungeons in a row. Otherwise I just continue to bank a measly 70 VP when I could be getting 140 JP.
This is only a 'win/win' for your main. Your alt is less happy about this change. Further, not everyone actually finds the raid tier of points as a blessing. On my alt, I'd love to be able to hold shift or something when I queue an just skip the VP's. Or perhaps down-rank them or something. Since the gear is only marginally better in terms of getting Heroics done and the dungeon-only rate for gaining VP's is depressingly slow, I'm genuinely surprised that not a single person considered that particular angle.
Mar 14th 2011 8:36PM I'd set the rules and stick to them, if I were you. You have to be open to all possibilities, including the possibility that 'she' is merely running a con on you. You don't really know the people you 'meet' online, and have no idea what they're telling you is actually the truth. But you DO know about the behaviors you witness and can certainly act upon those accordingly.
As long as your rules aren't insane in some way, I can't see any problem with preventing her drama issues from impacting the guild. After all, at least some small portion of your players do not wish to be some sort of support group. Some of them are playing a video game and want it to be fun and productive. Don't completely forget about them and run them all off, or you'll find you only have the dramatic people left.
Mar 14th 2011 8:25PM I think mine's the best: I'm Hogger. I was using that name before Blizzard got it, and in fact, it was the name of my wow account pre-battle.net...
Okay, so that's not a design idea, but still.

W hich licensing issues, precisely? People love to trot that out for free software as an issue but it rarely, if ever, exists. If it did, OpenOffice wouldn't be able to read MSOffice docs, for example. Not every piece of software is an MMO with a life-changing, soul-stealing EULA attached. Sometimes software licenses are just software licenses. Go check out the work being done by the EFF.
And as for technical issues, I think the guys that developed Mumble can handle it. The codecs used by Vent are well known and widely implemented.
Mar 9th 2011 10:48PM We used Mumble for a few months and really loved it. Pugs didn't.
Mumble needs to accept Ventrilo clients. Then we'll talk.
Mar 7th 2011 7:39PM I'm with Noyou on the balance issue. Things may seem cool when everyone is everything they'd ever want to be NOW, but it simply can't last. Either the nerf bat will come down hard, everyone will be the same uber-spec, or the game will just die. Humans tend to screw this kind of thing up pretty good. It's basic game theory that there have to be some sort of limits, and the classic ones have 30+ years of tradition behind them. There's a reason they've survived three generations of gamers with very little change...
Also I fear CoH-syndrome with end game RIFT. If there's everything when you're level 1, what's the point of hitting max level? Once you have, your sense of accomplishment will likely suffer. It isn't like you're suddenly going to go raiding, you're already raiding and have been since the newbie area.
Time will tell, I suppose, but I worry.
