Squashling, Hallowed Helm trick-or-treatable {WoW}

Oct 22nd 2008 5:40PM Well I've got 2 (!) hats on my Lvl 26 Char - I could cry, really!

1 from trick or treating, the other one from the "smash the pumpkin" daily quest (in that present from my little fangirl)

My girlfriend got one hat too from trick or treating so I guess there's a lot of good Mojo in this room today! :-O

WoW Insider speaks with Curse and Wowace {WoW}

Oct 15th 2008 9:05AM 1. Yes security issues would be there but could definitely be solved the only 2 questions that remain would be:
- Will like it? Most definitely not, they are NOT making money from this!
- Will Blizzard like it? Also I'm not sure - it could be that this gets officially supported once someone has the balls to try that (download addons ingame + update them on the next client start) or it gets forbidden alltogether (bandwith/security issues)

2. Yes I also wondered why addons always got downloaded fully via WAU, I've had quite a long pause from WoW and was sure that sooner or later "they" would build a WAU that does something like rsync because they already had bandwidth issues back then. Why "they" didnt? I honestly don't know!

WoW Insider speaks with Curse and Wowace {WoW}

Oct 14th 2008 5:38PM I guess the biggest problem is just the _huge_ amount of traffic.

There are 2 ways I thought that *could* work to help with that:

- Update addons within WoW
Yes, it sounds silly, but what about a mod that takes source code as input and saves it in its saved variables and an external program scans this afterwards and checks the integrity of the code via a checksum that is published somewhere (e.g. on curse) and if valid writes the code as specified to it's desired location? Would work for your whole guild/raid/party/specified friend via SendAddonMessage()
Yes I know there are concerns about being "hacked" etc. but I think something like that could be done correctly!

- Update Addons via BitTorrent
Add LibTorrent to your Updater and announce the addons to the Mainline or Vuze DHT! Time to share the love and start giving... not much more to add I think since this is a rather logical step imho.

Addon Spotlight: Curse Client updater {WoW}

Oct 14th 2008 2:51PM You don't give them ad income (I don't too since I use adblock, but there are enough people that don't I guess)

Addon Spotlight: Curse Client updater {WoW}

Oct 14th 2008 2:50PM Well, what about updating addons via BitTorrent then? This would not strain the servers that much, Checksumming is built into the protocol and it would clearly be easier to update addons that way than parsing websites and "stealing" bandwidth... maybe suggest that to the WoWMatrix people too!
