The Queue: Thank the ancestors {WoW}

Mar 25th 2012 6:36PM Super late entry, but two Q's for the Q. Or anyone else.

First, when did the shift happen to where we see (mostly) our own DOTs on a boss? I remember when we used to see everyone's, and I know now we see our own, but I can't remember when it shifted. Also, any idea how the game decides whose other debuffs to show? If I could see that someone else had Critical Mass up, for example, I wouldn't bother Scorching, but as it is now, I know that mine can be overwritten but then I don't know if it's dropped off.

Second, is there still and address to which we address stories of Random Acts of Coolness? I had a great LFR experience that I wanted to share and give a shout-out to the person involved.

The Light and How to Swing It: The case against Vengeance {WoW}

Mar 2nd 2012 5:16PM Interesting thoughts on Vengeance.

...which, for since reason, reminded me of patches and xpacs ago when warrior or druid tanks would go ape-doodoo crazy when disc priests would bubble them. Because they couldn't generate rage.

Remember that?

I didn't tank then, I just had to say okay and renew and heal them up. Ha.

Are pure DPS classes really just another form of hybrid in disguise? {WoW}

Feb 27th 2012 4:21PM The thing that frustrates me the most on my nonhybrid toons is the fact that the spec which puts out the most damage fluctuates, sometimes hugely. Take locks. I like affliction. There have been times when it was the best. Now when I do LFR, I see a bunch of metamorphosed locks and the occasional chaos bolt. The situation with priests is unfortunately unique to priests: disc and holy are just different. I would argue each has a niche, but that a good player could heal almost anything either way.

Not so DPS, especially in the pure classes. At least that's how it feels.

Breakfast Topic: What's the best race for each class? {WoW}

Feb 21st 2012 8:19AM This is a great question because, I think, there are so many ways to answer it.

Best, in what sense? Lore-wise? Racial-wise? Look-wise?

Horde side, I like orcs for melee classes and for hunters. I just think they look right. Casters, I usually like trolls and goblins. I mean, male goblins toss fireballs underhand; who can't like that?

Ally side, I just love worgen. Now, over here, not for the casting animations (since it looks like they have some kind of choreoathetosis), but just because I think they're fun. The racials are fun, having a couple of forms is fun . . . etc. etc. etc. My paladin is human (admittedly for the spirit and rep buff), and I do like how he casts, but if he could be a worgen he would be. Mage? Worgen. Druid? Worgen!

I guess for me it's a weird combo of the aesthetic and sometimes the racials.

I can't make myself play a gnome. Even if Expansive Mind were like a 50% buff, I couldn't do it.

And I just made an undead female mage named Marge for the Marge Simpson hair.

The Queue: Rule of Two {WoW}

Feb 20th 2012 11:11AM How big is the population, roughly, of a battlegroup?

I'm curious as to how big the pool is for LFR and random dungeons.

Breakfast Topic: What are your WoW pet peeves? {WoW}

Jan 28th 2012 8:26AM Oooh, this is an easy one.

You're in LFR. You've just downed [insert boss here]. You think, sweet, [insert phat lewt here] dropped, maybe I'll get it. A few people quit the raid because [insert stupid loot here] didn't drop . . . WITHOUT ROLLING. So you have to wait for the roll timer to expire. Wow. Annoying.

You're in LFR. You've just downed [insert boss here]. Loot drops, people roll, people win. The pedantic person whose add-on has been announcing stuff to the raid like, "[Priest] activates Divine Hymn!" says, "Oh, look, the bottom heals won the Maw. Doesn't deserve it." Or, "Look, the worst DK got a Gurthalak, l2play, you suck."

Where is the post quoting the blue post that the RNG suddenly became merit based? I'm sorry, but I missed that fundamental change to the game.

Get over it, random loot rolls are random.

The Queue: I understand my own sleep schedule {WoW}

Jan 21st 2012 12:27PM Not chemistry experts but rather Southern Baptists.

I've always heard the phrase as "hellfire and brimstone," used to describe the fate that awaits unrepentant sinners.

I just figured something out about the Dungeon Finder that I find annoying. I'm leveling a new druid (currently mid-40s) and I was wondering why it seemed like I kept getting knocked out of the queue. Then last night, I dinged, and poof, the green eyeball disappeared. Working as intended? Sad when the time on a given level is shorter than the healer +dps queue.

Which matters more, graphics or gameplay? {WoW}

Jan 10th 2012 1:15PM I play with the sound off most of the time. For me, the graphics are very important.

I avoid races entirely if I dislike the casting or melee animation. I'm looking at you, night elves and undead.

Books and text-based games, like old Zork, allowed you to use your imagination to construct whatever visuals you want, and I feel like visual impressions are really important to fiction and gaming. How often have you read a book only to see the movie and it doesn't look right?

If the sound is wrong (like Tyrande in the Well, what the hell, l2speak Common), you don't need it to play. You absolutely need the graphics, and at least for me they're tied to the gameplay. Heck, there are glyphs to change the appearance of stuff . . . nothing changes the sound. (I mean, if we can glyph Tree of Life and Shadowform, why not glyph to make your Worgen's voice always gravelly or always pip-pip-cheerio?)

Breakfast Topic: What WoW title would you choose in real life? {WoW}

Jan 10th 2012 10:45AM Stuart the Camel-Hoarder.

There is no question in my mind.

Camel Hoarder.
