Spiritual Guidance: When I was your age ... {WoW}

Sep 6th 2011 9:45AM Power Word Shield used to be the bane of my existence as Pally Tank back in the day. You wouldn't notice it at first, but further and further along in the fight you'd have absolutely no mana left. Stupid, you gotta get hit to get mana mechanic.

Call for submissions: Top tips for tanks {WoW}

May 24th 2010 10:29AM The greatest bit of advice that I can give you as a tank is learn how mobs move and how you need to respond to that. If you have a caster in the group, aggro the mob and move to him. Unless you have some type of silence ability, he's not going to come to you. If there's a wall where you can line of sight pull, do it. Occasionally, mobs are going to get behind you. Learn to be able to reposition yourself or you'll take too much damage. If your group uses crowd control abilites, make sure you get the mob far enough way from it so that it doesn't break the crowd control. It'll make your job a lot easier.

Another bit of advice is don't rely on taunt too extensively. A lot of first time tanks believe this is the best weapon in your arsenal. It's not. It only guarantees that your target will attack you for 3 seconds. Unless you're trying to position the mob a certain way, it's probably not the best ability to lead off with. Don't over use it. It has diminishing returns and you'll be in a tough situation when the enemy is immune. If you have to use taunt, make sure you're hitting the enemy you use it on. More often than not, your damage dealer will still be doing damage to said target thus causing aggro.

The Queue: In which Amy Pond is profiled {WoW}

Apr 22nd 2010 8:02PM Wow, I must have hit a sparkly heart string there. It was a joke, learn to take one. :P

The Queue: In which Amy Pond is profiled {WoW}

Apr 22nd 2010 4:17PM I came to the sad realization the other night that when Cataclysm hits, there's going to sharp influx of Worgens inspired by Twilight. Like ones named Jacob and guilds popping up called Team Jacob. How might we rectify the situation as to keep Blizzard from continuing this trend and putting anything in the game that even remotely resembles a sparkly vampire?

Officers' Quarters: A friendly loot system {WoW}

Apr 20th 2010 9:04AM In reply to Clundgren's points:

1) The raid is always stopped to distribute loot no matter what distribution model is used so what difference would it be to have people vote? From the article using "Team A" as an indicator it sounds like he's running 10 man content. Not every piece of gear will be contested.

2) Did you read the original post? The people are willing to leave a guild so someone else could get a piece of loot. To me, that's an obvious sign that there are people who are willing to let the gear go to the person they believe deserves it. It's just a modified version of loot council. Guilds run it everyday with no problem. It's up to the raid party to decide whether it's going to be a popularity contest or they're going to give to the person who "deserves" it more. You can't just automatically assume the worst out of people until they actually prove it.

Officers' Quarters: A friendly loot system {WoW}

Apr 19th 2010 10:01AM There seems to be a problem with your system and the way your guild wants loot distribution. Sounds like the roll system was only working when no one was in contention for the same pieces. The easiest solution to the problem? Just have a vote among the people in the 10 man as to who should get the gear. It's quick, simple, and all the cards are on the table. If they want to reward the guy who's been there the longest and/or the person who it's the biggest upgrade, they can. It's up to them.

I know Scott suggested a "dibs" type system. But it's been my experience that this causes more problems than solution. It becomes kind of a shouting match where they think the person who makes the biggest stink will get the prize.

The Queue: Howl at the nonexistent moon {WoW}

Apr 7th 2010 10:31AM What are some popular sites for your guild's progression rank? I used to use Wowjutsu but it looks like it hasn't been upgraded since Malygos was relevant.

Breakfast Topic: Are boss mods cheating? {WoW}

Apr 5th 2010 10:29AM With a game as complex as WoW, I view addons more of an equalizer than an advantage. I use BigWigs. If I didn't, I would probably wipe a lot more than I do now. To me that puts into the same league as the person who doesn't need to use it. I use a target addon in arena, because if I didn't I would die even more times than I do now.
